(Dang originally posted in the wrong section, as I didn't classify this as a hardware problem. That's ASD for you.)
LL3.4 : Hp 15 notebook, quad core.
Ran updates Ok a couple of days ago. needed to reboot for some to take effect. It rebooted through 'safe' mode &then wouldn't connect to my wifi so shut down & logged back on all OK. Been on standby when not in use for last couple of days. Accidentally pressed on/off button tonight briefly & went into standby - I think. Pressed start button again to get back in & it shut down. now reboots to 'safe' (selects LL by default if left 30 secs.) I get the feather but his takes longer than normal to clear. then goes to command line login request. Accepts this OK with password & goes to command line $ after some messages inc:
usr/lib/ubuntu-release-upgrader/ release-upgrade-motd: 39: usr/lib/ubuntu-release-upgrader/release-upgrade-motd: cannot create /var/lib/ubuntu-release-upgrader/release upgrade available: read-only file system
usr/lib/update-notifier/update-motd-fsck-at-reboot: 33: usr/lib/update-notifier/update-motd-fsck-at-reboot: cannot create /var/lib/update-notifier/fsck-at-reboot: read-only file system
cat: /var/lib/update-notifier/fsck-at-reboot: no such file or directory
run-parts: /etc/update-motd.d/98-fsck-at-reboot exited with return code 1
What do I do now ?

Hi all, LL5 on Lenovo G50-30 Notebook taking a long time to load - this seems to be the important bit. Any help greatly appreciated.

Ans: post this in the 'hardware support' section, even though I don't class this as a hardware problem, that's where the start up / shut down subforum is.

my desktop PC upstairs is a 64bit , i have linux lite 5.0 64bit. its not linux, its my power switch that is the problem.
my problem is a mechanical problem with the power button that turns the pc on, ha ha , i have to reach inside the pc with one hand and gently push forward with one finger and press the power button with the other finger on the front, lol, i made a funny video of it , but have yet to upload it. in the mean time i either need to replace the switch(i think thats what one calls it) if its replaceable, or buy a new desktop PC.
this is why i am looking for a portable email client, that works from a USB only,
for example "thunderbird portable",
https://portableapps.com/apps/internet/t...d_portable
-----
the question is , what portable email client you suggest i try ?.
i dont want to use the thunderbird email client already installed with this linux lite, for security reasons, in case the method i am using to power the pc on every morning no longer works (i turn the pc off before i go to bed)

Hi, new to Linux Lite, not new to linux; I'm trying it out as a replacement for my Slackware stuff.
Would love to have xed as text editor, but can't get it installed (tried several things, including the install instructions from the Linux Mint page (which is kind of strange as Lite is also based on Ubuntu..)).
Any tips on how to add the right PPA or another solution?
Thx!

| [Solved] Issue to tile windows (only 1 workspace) |

Hi Linux Lite forum,
I need some help from you.
I don't have the "auto-tile" when I put my windows with the mouth on one side or the other of the screen even with my only workspace.
I have tried a couple of combinaison of ticked box in the windows manager/tweak tool but no success at all.
Moreover, I cannot have the tiling working with Keyboard shortcuts (<Super>Left, <Super>Right...). Additional information, when I press the Super key, the Menu pulls-up (which is generally speaking cool, but not in that case :p ).
Do you have any tips/idea to help please?
Best regards,
Romrom54
