  Themes and system peformance.
Posted by: Moltke - 01-17-2020, 01:33 PM - Forum: Desktop Customization - Replies (2)

Hi everyone! Hope you're all having anice life and a wonderful 2020! Smile

I never gave too much thought whether or not a theme was/is still maintained, turns out the one I used, arc theme, hasn't been updated since 2017, just as adapta hasn't been updated since 2018 either, that being said I've never had any kind of issue nor I've noticed any impact in system's peformance, however,  I do wonder what the implications might be, is it really that bad having an "out of date" theme? I guess if it gets 5 years with no updates at all then it might be a good time to change it, but then, how does exactly a theme have influence in systems' performance? I mean, can an "out of date" theme slow down the system?  I guess it affects the looks and probably some buttons like "ok", "cancel", "close", "open" might not work as expected, am I right? Other than that, what are the undesired effects one can expect?

I cannot open my new SSD in File Manager (Failed to open/Can't mount file)
Posted by: tikiti - 01-17-2020, 10:14 AM - Forum: Hard Drives and SSDs - Replies (8)

Hello,

I installed a new 256GB ssd on my old laptop. I only want Linux Lite on it. I installed Linux lite once but  I couldn't open the hard drive like I can do in windows Local Disk C. I didn't make any partitions since it's a 256GB SSD. So I re-formatted my ssd and installed Linux Lite again but the problem still persists. The disk is already mounted but I cannot open it from "Drives" in "File Manager" but it seems to be connected to the user folders (Docs/Downloads/Music/Pictures/etc).

This is the error that I get.

Newbee questions before installation… will it work on my Notebook?
Posted by: cxo - 01-16-2020, 02:26 PM - Forum: Installing Linux Lite - Replies (7)

My computer is a Lenovo Thinkpad W520, a powerhouse with an i7-2720, 32 GB RAM, two fairly big SSDs, fingerprint reader, USB3, eSata and a color calibration tool - you name it, this was built for photo and video editing.

The printers are a Samsung M288 printer/scanner and a Brother MFC 6490CW2.

Recently I installed Ubuntu 18 LTS and ran into several problems - the machine did not boot properly, sound did not work and more, printer installation felt like a dentist appointment, Wifi was dead slow, Bluetooth did not work and a few more. I could fix some of that but it was no fun at all. So, I am ready to quit the "normal" Ubuntu world.

**As LL is based on Ubuntu, too, do I have to expect the same problems?

Did any of you ever successfully install this OS on a similar machine? **

Intended use:
1. Video editing with Shotcut
2. Audio editing
3. Photo editing
4. organization of media files
5. Standard tasks like web browsing, writing letters, spreadsheets etc.
6. Maybe, maybe use Wine or similar to work with the construction software SketchUp or Vectorworks plus a renderer or so.

  Asus 1001px no sound
Posted by: Hal 1000 - 01-16-2020, 08:10 AM - Forum: Sound - Replies (1)

Hi all, first post. Smile

I did a writeup in the introduction thread and lost it by timing out.
Typical noob! haha... :Smile    Anyway,

I have a Asus 1001px with a Realtek HD audio.
Unfortunately I have no sound from the inbuilt speakers.

Ive done some app checking and the settings look okay.
I also read through this topic page and found no self help solution.

Does anyone know what driver I need for this, maybe it's in the 32bit flavor.
Oh, it is a duel boot with W7 if that's of any use.

Thanks in advance, cheers.

  Theme suggestions for 5.x
Posted by: valtam - 01-15-2020, 12:48 PM - Forum: On Topic - Replies (7)

Adapta is no longer maintained so we need to find something that goes perfectly with Papirus Icon theme.

A theme that has been maintained at least once in the last 3 months. Needs to have a light and dark theme.
Preferably GTK 3. Please provide a direct link if you are going to suggest a theme. Thank you.

What does the prompt with the white number and orange background represent
Posted by: noweare - 01-15-2020, 01:52 AM - Forum: On Topic - Replies (1)

Hey guys & gals,
I have not been using linux lite long but I am learning alot.  One thing that I have not figured out is the numbers that as part of the prompt.
I know that there can be multiple bash sessions going on in the background but I haven't figured what this means.
Any help is appreciated.

  <chuckle> - Here's my intro...

Just spent an hour composing my intro and I guess my login timed out and I lost it.  I'm shorting it up to follow the instructions after trying to update an "original" MacBook Air on two different APs on my home network.

  update/upgrade issue
Posted by: luunatik20 - 01-14-2020, 05:55 PM - Forum: Other - Replies (7)

hello.

i am facing two issues, appreciate if someone could help.

issue one, update: getting follow messages while updating
E: The repository 'http://deb.leap.se/client buster Release' does not have a Release file.
N: Updating from such a repository can't be done securely, and is therefore disabled by default.
N: See apt-secure(8) manpage for repository creation and user configuration details.

issue two, upgrade: getting message notifying i am already on latest version (4.6) while version 4.8 is available.

Thanks.
