Hi I'm new to Linux. Trying to update but not working and getting the message below:

E: Could not get lock /var/lib/dpkg/lock - open (11: Resource temporarily unavailable)
E: Unable to lock the administration directory (/var/lib/dpkg/), is another process using it?

Anyone able to help?

Installing Coinexx MT4 metatrader using Wine
Posted by: torreydale - 10-30-2019, 02:28 AM - Forum: Installing Software - Replies (11)

When I attempt to install this app using Wine, I get the following popup:

Odd thing is my other laptop runs Linux Mint and the install went fine without this popup.  This app works on Linux; not sure why I'm having this roadblock with Linux Lite.  I was using Cloudflare (1.1.1.1) as my primary DNS for my Linux Lite laptop.  But when I changed it to match what my Linux Mint machine was running for primary and secondary DNS, that didn't make a difference.  Same popup.  I also didn't notice anything unusual with the laptop's local firewall (GUFW).

Really appreciate any ideas.  We have some time.  I start a class on this stuff early next week.  I'd like to get the problem solved by then.

Cheers

how to change key function on keyboard
Posted by: kat - 10-29-2019, 05:28 AM - Forum: Other - Replies (2)

I don't know where to ask this question. I'm sorry if I have it wrong here. I totally put Linux Lite on my chromebook as the operating system. It works great, but the top keys on the keyboard don't all work. Is there a way to make them do what I want? I had Lubuntu 19.10 on it once, and they had an easy way to fix the keys the way you want them. I don't know how to do that in Linux Lite. I would like some help with this. I have the top three on the right working as mute, lower sound, and raise sound. The others don't work, like the two that control brightness and also the screenshot key and the key that makes the screen large or small, also the refresh button, these don't work. The top left and right arrows work though. Please help. Kinda dumb here with Linux things. Thanks, Karen Atkisson

Posted by: Yoru3 - 10-28-2019, 08:32 PM - Forum: Installing Linux Lite - Replies (3)

After using the LL system flawlessly for quite some time I have now got an update error. The following is the paste from the clipboard.
The system had been running continuously for about a month without restarts, mainly using Eagle, Thunderbird, Firefox and Libre Office.
RegardsColin

Whisker Menu, Edit Applications, MenuLibre Parsing Errors
Posted by: amigo - 10-26-2019, 11:30 PM - Forum: Other - Replies (7)

Whisker Menu, Edit Applications, MenuLibre Parsing Errors.
/usr/share/applications/hp-uiscan.desktop
Exec program '/usr/bin/hp-uiscan' has not been found in the PATH

/usr/share/applications/kde4/kmailservice.desktop
Exec program 'kmailservice %u' has not been found in the PATH

/usr/share/applications/kde4/ktelnetservice.desktop
Exec program 'ktelnetservice %u' has not been found in the PATH
The first one for hp I felt comfortable with as I use an hp printer (even though I don't have a clue what parsing is or means, or what a PATH is). I'm not a programmer, just a 74 year old guy using linux.
The next 2 items kmailservice and ktelnetserice I am not familiar with at all.
I've looked through linux forums and it just got more confusing for me..
Just want to know if it's something I need to worry about?
ThanksAmigo

  Fragments of Euclid [game, puzzle]

I would like to promote in this place something that I enjoyed, which is a little, neat puzzle, entitled Fragments of Euclid. It is a "free to play" or "pay what you want" release. Link HERE. If you enjoy impossible geometry and fourth dimension themes, you may find this one.

  Update question
Posted by: arky217 - 10-26-2019, 07:00 PM - Forum: Suggestions and Feedback - Replies (1)

First, let me say that I really like LL; it is my daily driver.
So, much thanks to Jerry and all the other contributors.
I have tried nearly all the top distros, but none seems to
satisfy like LL. I just seems so dependable. I always come
back to LL after comparing it to other distros.

The forum is especially a blessing; questions seem to be
responded to on a professional and timely basis.

As with nearly all other Linux distros, LL is free to the end user.
Because of that, I simply cannot understand posters that complain
as if they paid a huge sum for the distro.

With that said, please don't consider the following question
as a complaint of any kind; it is simply a curiosity question.

I was just wondering when you click on Install Updates,
why a window pops up that gives the choice to 'quit' or 'continue' ?
I'm probably overlooking the reason, but it kind of seems like
an unnecessary step. (Yes, I know, a very minor thing, but I was just curious)

Would there be any easy way to eliminate that step ?

Also, would there be any way to have a continuous indication
on a panel that updates are available instead of, or in addition to,
the timed notification ?

Anyway, long live Linux Lite; I think it should be at the top of the
DistroWatch chart instead of MX (and yes, I've used MX quite a bit).

  Internet lag after SUSPEND
Posted by: lintek - 10-26-2019, 01:10 AM - Forum: Other - Replies (15)

When I wake my computer up from SUSPEND the internet lags horribly.  I have two IPs and even if I switch from one to the other it doesnt help.

After a reboot, it works normally again.

Seems there are plenty of similar problems for linux folk (listed on a google search) but not sure if any of the fixes apply to LITE.

Any ideas?
