  Question about bundled software
Posted by: redplanet - 08-28-2019, 10:00 PM - Forum: Other - Replies (2)

Not exactly a support issue, been using LL about two years but still a relative noob.  So, I think I installed LL 3.8 at first, maybe 3.6...  So, with the bundled software there was an audio alarm app that I used all the time.  It let me select a sound file (I d/l a bunch of different alarms for this), and select a time, standard alarm program, but not an alarm clock.  To clarify, this was a GUI, not a CLI, program that would schedule, play, and loop an audio file.

So, due to messing things up (installed NIC, messed up settings, etc.) I have had to reinstall a few times, now I have LL 4.2, and that program is gone.  Honestly, I'm not sure it was bundled or I found it in repos, but I can't find it again for the life of me.  I have googled, and tried searching through synaptic, with no luck.  I really want to find this program again, any help is truly welcome.

Edit:  Really, I only want to find the name of this program, although a link is welcome, this is all I'm asking for.  Anyone know what I'm talking about?

"Making a 'business' installing LL on old computers": your comments please ...
Posted by: m654321 - 08-28-2019, 04:03 PM - Forum: On Topic - Replies (15)

To supplement my meagre pension, I put an advert in the online version of a local advertisement-only paper. The service I'm offering is to rejuvenate old computers, that people might otherwise throw away. To bring them back to life, I would install LL on them for a small fee - details of the package are at this link:

https://www.friday-ad.co.uk/st-leonards-...-16483482/

10% of any income I may make from this little venture, will be donated directly to LL.  Smile
The problem is that noone, as yet, has taken up the offer, though I'm remaining optimistic  :-[

So is there something I need to change in the advert to provoke more interest?
Your comments/criticisms are welcomed or alternative approaches to marketing, etc.

Many thanks in advance for any feedback on this
Cheers
Mike

  Wireless does not connect automatically

Hello,

Whenever the computer is rebooted (or logged off and on) the user needs to Dyson V7 Review reconnect to the Wireless network. Furthermore when they try to do so they are asked for an admin password. Given they are a standard user this is not possible.

thanks

VMWare Workstation 15 and Kernel 5.2?
Posted by: icedigger - 08-28-2019, 02:10 PM - Forum: Installing Software - Replies (4)

Would it be possible if you can make a workaround for the latest vmware workstation and the 5.2 kernel like you did with the 5.0 kernel?

Selected wrong xorg.conf file for nvidia screen tearing
Posted by: Luxer Rexul - 08-28-2019, 06:14 AM - Forum: Video Cards - Replies (9)

I'm new to linux. And was trying to prevent screen tearing with nvidia settings. My gpu is Geforce 1050ti. I selected the wrong xorg file and now i'm stuck with just a wallpaper and no xfce loading. The xorg.conf I selected was /usr/share/xresprobe. I also tried to purge nvidia drivers with "sudo apt-get remove --purge nvidia"

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

when is lite with 4.19 linux kernel coming out?
Posted by: n49er - 08-27-2019, 09:29 PM - Forum: On Topic - Replies (8)

The reason is last year I got a wifi stick and got it to work temporally, but only to lose the settings with new kernels installs.  Then it failed completely after the new kernels came around.  Today I looked around and find this wifi driver would work as plug and play in linux kernel 4.19.  Sooo, I tried the new easyos 2.1 with the 4.19 kernel and it works out of the box.  I understand lite 4.6 will come out with linux kernel 4.17.  So, does that mean waiting for another year or so for a new kernel in lite?

  SUPERHOT-line-Miami [game]
Posted by: MS - 08-26-2019, 03:58 PM - Forum: On Topic - Replies (3)

Interesting little game, a mixture of two well known titles, the SUPERHOT and the Hotline Miami. Time moves only when you do, in the style of Hotline Miami. Link HERE. Preferably get the Deluxe edition. To start, make 'nw' file executable and execute through the terminal. Challenge: complete within ten minutes, zero times defeated, hard difficulty mode.

EDIT:

Pity there are only seven levels and roughly 3+1 weapons available, but hey, still a helluva time. Conceptual sequel to this game is called Shootout Inc., although I consider it overthought. Simplicity is quality.

  Mindustry [game]
Posted by: MS - 08-26-2019, 03:52 PM - Forum: Games Support - Replies (2)

Once in a while, there is an exception to the rule or tendency. Not that I do not really like gaming. It is rather the case of expectations and choosing a better thing. Apparently, once in a while, something indeed does make an impact. I start this thread to leave a shoutout about a particular title.

Probably a lot of people would associate me - due to my banters - as an "infrastructure guy", who would always point out the importance of ecosystem, however to understand this ecosystem. This time, it is a game about management of the ecosystem. It is a modern design game. Link HERE. It is a lightweight game, a mixture of real time strategy, tower defense and topdown dogfights.

But to keep it rolling, do you know of any representative and freeware Linux games working out of the box?

EDIT:

To make it harder, try to mention something that is not on Steam!
