I am a grandpa living with my dog mostly on an iland on the Gulf of Finland. The dog is Laps Herder, if I were younger I will start living in Lapland and earning money there as reinder herder but unfortunately I'm already 83 years old (and he is 8 years) so we stay here.
I have collected used PC's and my hobby is to try different systems in them, mostly Linux's. The one I use now is an IBM NetVista over 10 years old. This LinuxLite seems to be working resonable in it. Earlyer I tryed BunsenLabs wich I liked very much. The LinuxLite I use is from LINUX FORMATs June 2017 DVD.
Becouse this computer is sometimes SLOW I think that something like 4M Linux could work a bit better then the recent installation but I hope I could give the NetVista to a frend of mine and LinuxLite seems to suite well for a newbe so I continue using it to test.
Se you later 8)

So, while I'm new to Lite I've had Linux exposure back to the days of the 1.2.x kernels in a role as a system admin. Haven't had much desktop Linux experience for quite a few years but Microsoft's recent antics are pushing me in this direction for my private computing requirements.
After spending a couple of weeks sampling a variety of distros, Lite has come out the choice for my needs - which include for use by an elderly relative so that I can remotely support them. I now administer 4 installations all on Lite 3.4 64bit: a VirtualBox VM on my Windows 7 desktop, a Dell all-in-one and an Acer notebook (both legacy boot), and an Intel NUC (UEFI boot). The Dell is now with the relative and Teamviewer has been very useful for remote support.
Thanks to m654321 for his UEFI tutorial and thanks to Jerry and co for Lite!

| Stellarium is removed when Lite updates is run |

The latest version of Stellarium which will run on my eeePC is 0.11 (MESA version) which I install from a deb file. The version is locked in Synaptic but when I run 'Install updates' Stellarium 0.11 gets removed, including the menu entry. I then have to run the deb installer again. Can I stop this happening?
TIA
Edit: running command apt autoremove wants to remove stellarium and stellarium-data
$ sudo apt autoremove
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
The following packages will be REMOVED:
libqt4-opengl libqt5opengl5 libqt5serialport5 stellarium
stellarium-data
0 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 5 to remove and 0 not upgraded.
After this operation, 161 MB disk space will be freed.
Do you want to continue? [Y/n]

| A few Desktop and update questions |

I've got several questions that maybe could be cleaned up in one thread. Any help would be appreciated.
- I just started using workspaces. I can switch them by Ctrl-Alt-<left|right>, or by mouse action. Is it possible to list all open programs in both/either the Panel and/or the Alt-Tab dialog, and thereby switch directly to the desired prog? I know I can do it by middle-click on the desktop, but the desktop is not always visible. I think it's important to have a view of all open progs.
- I have lost the window snapping function. Toggling settings does not jog it back on. Full disclosure: I installed LXDE, thinking to give it a try, just before this happened. I didn't find a way to invoke it, and I've since uninstalled much of it, but snapping is not back. Is there any way to restore it?
- Is there a compositor available for LL? I might want to check out some advanced features.
- Lastly, though not desktop related, I seem to have lost the ability to update LL. Updates is no longer in the Menu. I did configure the new automatic reminders, for twice a week, I believe, but I haven't seen any sign of them in a week, which doesn't seem right. I'm on 3.4, and Upgrade says this is the latest. So can one still update manually?
Thanks and BW.
