installing 3.2 and keep home folder intact
Posted by: nublix - 12-27-2016, 09:13 AM - Forum: Installing Linux Lite - Replies (9)

After just about a yr of having LL2.6, I'm prepping this old machine to install 3.2 32bit but need to keep my home partition.

My partitions are:

Am I correct that  the following is what I need to do? -saw a vid on someone's post on this forum.

Something Else
select the Root partition  and use as ext 4 journalling . . .
select format, Mount as Root
Leave Swap as is
Home: use as ext 4 journalling . . .; do not format; mount point is /home; OK, Install Now; Continue

However, before I get there, in following the instructions in the online help manual to put the iso on the usb, don't I need to change this

Code:
sudo dd if=linux-lite-2.8-32bit.iso of=/dev/sdx bs=4M
to?
Code:
sudo dd if=linux-lite-3.2-32bit.iso of=/dev/sdb1 bs=4M

my usb show up under sdb1

Simple to use Anti Virus frontend for Linux
Posted by: valtam - 12-27-2016, 06:02 AM - Forum: On Topic - Replies (16)

Have started coding with Yad, and I'm finding it extremely flexible.
The front end is far from finished but I'm going to make this distro friendly so that other distributions can take advantage of it.
The AV engine is ClamAV.

I feel the linux world is missing a simple to use, AV client.
There's no date yet when this will be available, it's just something that I'm hacking in my spare time.

  New Linux Lite User
Posted by: Ironfighter - 12-27-2016, 03:41 AM - Forum: Introductions - Replies (2)

At last after many years tinkering with Linux I have come across a Linux Version that suits my needs:

Hopeless Tinkerer
Liable to break something
Collector of Software

After many years of being the scourge of IT guys that I worked with I can now in my retirement tinker to my hearts content.

I installed LL3 on a 32G USB stick with persistence.  Everything is working!!

I installed Drop Box and Mega - 50G of free storage with a Firefox addon.  I am on cloud 9 :Smile

The absolute clincher for me was when I installed this printer driver (Generic PCL 6/PCL XL Printer - CUPS+Gutenprint v5.2.11) on my Fuji Xerox 3 in 1 - Docuprint M225 dw). It worked - yeah!

Thank you guys very much for producing such a user friendly Linux OS.  I will be back shortly when I have broken something.

Firefox and Thunderbird crash on Linux Lite 3.2
Posted by: Zosj - 12-26-2016, 10:38 PM - Forum: Installing Software - Replies (12)

I recently installed Linux Lite 3.2 on an old HP Pavilion A110.be Desktop. I increased the RAM to 1GB.

The problem is that both Firefox and Thunderbird crash when started up. I reinstalled firefox several times, also older versions, but the problem stays. When I boot the computer from the USB-stick with Linux on it, firefox and thunderbird run smooth. I also tried to install other browsers, such as Opera and Midori, but when I try to run them, they just disappear. To make a long story short, I cannot access the internet when I start up the computer normally from it's hard drive.

Can anyone help me?
Thx,
Zosj

Firefox ends support for Windows XP & Vista
Posted by: Ottawagrant - 12-26-2016, 05:13 PM - Forum: Off Topic - Replies (1)

Not really a shocking or surprising story. XP is 15 years old & Vista is 10. Version 52 of Firefox will be the last XP &Vista compatible version. Not a surprise, Google Chrome did it last year. Here's a link to the store, which is really a non-story. Plus in April of 2017 Microsoft has reached end of life for Vista. You may now return to your eggnog.

  Linux Lite Services Status page

You can now check which services are up/down in Linux Lite.

In time, I'll be splitting off the Mirrors information on the Download page to a new page that will also show mirror service status. This will hopefully nullify the pain of adding a repo that doesn't work  :o
