  Chromium

At the risk of being accused of fear mongering, I will post this caution anyway particularly since I happen to like Chromium. It is a recent warning.

  Connecting Mobile Phone to OS?
Posted by: PinStripe - 12-08-2016, 07:59 PM - Forum: Other - Replies (4)

Hello, this is my 2nd post here...
I have tried connecting my LG V20 phone to the computer in attempt to transfer photos to my OS.
But when the file manager loads after clicking on the phone icon, the proper folders come up and I
go into the internal folder and then click on the Camera folder where the photos would be stored. But
then all of a sudden, everytime, it comes back with FAILED TO MOUNT LG. What?? I was just in it!!

How do I transfer photos from my phone to this OS? Haven't had an issue for over a year with other
distros. Why this one?

How do I use KDEConnect on Linux Lite?
Posted by: PinStripe - 12-08-2016, 07:13 PM - Forum: Installing Software - Replies (8)

Hi, this is my first post here... I just installed this distro a few days ago and am loving it, so far. But I have a few concerns which I will address in various posts.

I'm just curious since I found KDEConnect in the synaptic software manager... is there ANY way to get it to work in Linux Lite even though this is not a KDE distro?

It would be so great if this would work! I usually run KDE OS's and already I miss this feature. But the Linux Lite distro out of MANY is one that is the least problematic
running on my system, even though my system isn't THAT old.

Any ideas on how to get KDEConnect to run on this distro... again, would be great!

  Dual boot on MacBookPro?
Posted by: Xorcist - 12-08-2016, 06:04 PM - Forum: Installing Linux Lite - Replies (1)

I'd like to dual boot Linux Lite 3.2 on my new MacBookPro, which uses EFI (and doesn't seem to have a "legacy bios"). Has anyone done this before? Can anyone give me some advice on getting LL setup, I read in various posts that the EFI can cause install issues.

So far I have set the machine up using this tutorial:

http://www.howtogeek.com/187410/how-to-i...-on-a-mac/

but have yet to attempt a LL install. Just wanted to know if I was in for trouble or not...

Installation errors since last 3.2 update

For the past few days I've been getting errors when installing software. Something about root privileges. In each case, though, the software seems to install ok anyway.

Help Manual Tutorial - Setting a Restore Point
Posted by: valtam - 12-08-2016, 11:04 AM - Forum: On Topic - Replies (2)

The next time you get an updated package for the Help Manual, there will be a new and important tutorial covered - Setting a Restore Point using Systemback. This will also appear in the 3.4 Lite Welcome as one of the first 3 things you should do after Install Updates and Install Drivers from a fresh install.

  Ransomware On Google Chrome
Posted by: Jocklad - 12-07-2016, 07:36 PM - Forum: On Topic - Replies (5)

Got a call from a friend this morning running linuxlite 2.8x64.

The chrome browser was frozen with ransomeware.

He told me openly he had been at some "Adult Sites"

He does not have sudo access to the system...Only I have.

First thought was to remove chrome and re-install the browser.

Decided in the end to reformat and install Linuxlite 3.2

Not something you see every Day.

Recently got this on e.bay for cleaning.

Not cheap......nearly £40.

Certainly does the job very well

Unable to get Epson Perfection V500 Photo Scanner working in Linux Lite 3.2
Posted by: m654321 - 12-07-2016, 05:24 PM - Forum: Printing and Scanning - Replies (9)

Epson Perfection V500 flatbed scanner worked fine in LL2 series but not with LL3 series.
Output from terminal is as follows:

Code:
mike@mike-G750JS:~$ sudo sane-find-scanner
[sudo] password for mike:

  # sane-find-scanner will now attempt to detect your scanner. If the
  # result is different from what you expected, first make sure your
  # scanner is powered up and properly connected to your computer.

  # No SCSI scanners found. If you expected something different, make sure that
  # you have loaded a kernel SCSI driver for your SCSI adapter.

found USB scanner (vendor=0x04b8 [EPSON], product=0x0130 [EPSON Scanner]) at libusb:003:002
  # Your USB scanner was (probably) detected. It may or may not be supported by
  # SANE. Try scanimage -L and read the backend's manpage.

  # Not checking for parallel port scanners.

  # Most Scanners connected to the parallel port or other proprietary ports
  # can't be detected by this program.
mike@mike-G750JS:~$ sudo scanimage -L
device `epkowa:interpreter:003:002' is a Epson Perfection V500 flatbed scanner
mike@mike-G750JS:~$ iscan

From the above, the scanner seems to be detected but subsequently running the 'scan' command results in the following iscan notification: 'Could not send command to scanner. Check the scanner's status.'

I'm clueless as to what to do next... extremely frustrating

Mike

I suspect with the following installed before running with 'iscan':

Wifi Connection with old Acer laptop
Posted by: makatta - 12-07-2016, 06:13 AM - Forum: Network - Replies (2)

Alright, I'm a new Linux user and can't be happier with how Linux Lite has breathed new life into my formerly unusably slow laptop...

EXCEPT, I can't get the wireless to show up.

After trying to find new drivers (I didn't) I've done a bit of snooping around here for solutions and ran rfkill and got the following:

0: acer-wireless: Wireless LAN
Soft blocked: no
Hard blocked: no

Which says to me that my Wireless LAN should be working, right? Yet when I click my internet connections, the wired option is the only one that appears.

Can someone tell me what I'm doing wrong?

If it helps the output from inxi -n is:
Network:  Card-1: Broadcom BCM4401-B0 100Base-TX driver: b44
IF: eth0 state: up speed: 100 Mbps duplex: full
          mac: 00:16:d4:a8:c7:e5
Card-2: Broadcom BCM4318 [AirForce One 54g] 802.11g Wireless LAN Controller
          driver: b43-pci-bridge
          IF: N/A state: N/A mac: N/A
