Installing Lite 3.0 on External Hard drive

After not be able to install 3.0 on one of my machines I decided to see how well it performs on a external hard drive
First I try installing 3.0 and for some reason when I installed Google Chrome and open it I have a line across the middle of the screen faded but I can see it odd
I didn't know what to make of it because I don't have issues like this on any other device. So I also install Chromium and had the same problem
I then decide to remove Lite 3.0 and install 2.8, no issues with using the Google Chrome browser of Chromium. Anyone have any idea's what might be the problem with 3.0? and Google Chrome and Chromium
Thanks so much for any help with this I would really like to install Lite 3.0 if I could

Tutorial/ Remote SSH Secure Shell Via Ad Hoc Wifi Using Remmina

This tutorial is specific to enabling a remote Linux Lite 3.0 Secure Shell on another wifi connected Linux computer utilizing Remmina. Remmina works well on most modern Debian based and/or Ubuntu based Linux distros. I will be using a Solydx laptop, a similar Debian based XFCE distro a little less hybrid and a little less compatible with Ubuntu than Linux Lite, but suitable for the purposes of this tutorial.
To begin open a terminal in Linux Lite 3.0 and type- sudo systemctl start ssh -. Enter your password and ssh will start on Linux Lite. We will connect via ad hoc wifi the first time, so reset the firewalls on both machines as in our previous tutorial. Select and connect to the ad hoc wifi hosted network we set up in the last tutorial with your Linux Lite machine.
Go to your other Linux computer, and if XFCE click >Menu>Internet>Remmina to open it. Click on >Connection at the top left of the window and from the drop down down menu select >New. A window will open entitled Remote Desktop Preferences. In the box next to >Name type in the the netbios name of your Linux Lite 3.0 computer (the one we will be connecting to). In the box next to >Group simply type in / a forward slash. In the box next to >Protocol click open the drop down menu and locate and click on >SSH Secure Shell. In the box next to >Server type in 10.42.0.1 i/e the ad hoc wifi IP address of you Linux Lite computer. Leave the >Character set and Startup program boxes blank for now. Type your Linux Lite sudo user name in the box next to >User name. Turn on the >Password radio button. Click the >Save button in the lower left corner of the window.
Now click on your new SSH remote secure shell connection, and from the menu select >Connect. A remote desktop terminal shell will appear immediately reading at the first line >Welcome to Linux Lite 3.0 (listing after which kernel is in use by the Linux Lite system), a few lines below listing *Documentation, *Management, and *Support URLs. Next the number of available updates may be listed, and qualified as to security in the next line. The next line will usually be Last Login: with a date, and the IP address of the computer that logged in. Next will be the your Linux Lite command prompt now usable from your SSH connected other Linux machine as a secure shell remote terminal. To exit the shell type in >exit at the prompt and hit >enter. More networking power added.

LAN on Linux Lite

I would like to ask for a basic instructions how to configure Lan between two Linux Lite machines (latest LL 3 on an old machine and LL 2. on relatively new machine). I simply pluged in network cable, indicators are showing that machines are trying to connect, but they don't connect after a while, ethernet network. Previously, a few months ago, I was reading instructions for setting network share, and I was trying to set a share between Windows and Linux, but this is probably next phase, does this influence on connection maybe?

Hi folks,
I've run up against a problem in LL 3.0 x64. I went to install the latest version of Bleachbit, and the installer told me there is an older version in the repository. I Closed that message, but the installer would not go on, saying another installer was already running. This happened even upon a fresh boot with nothing else done in the session.
So I opened up Synaptic and it told me there was an error, and to run dpkg --configure -a . It ran, but with errors. I then opened Synaptic and it said there were broken packages that had to be remedied. Turns out the broken package was linux-generic 4.4.0.36.38, which sounds pretty important to me.
I attempted to reinstall the package, but got Internal error. No file name for linux-generic:amd64. A retrybrought the same error.
I don't know if the Bleachbit install error is tied to this other one, but I suspect so. Is there a solution to this?
Thank you.

SSH Passwordless Login across your LAN

Why use SSH Passwordless Login instead of your good ole password?
Simple, the chances to crack a high bit key are effectively zero (insert NSA paranoia here), while bad passwords are all to common, let alone people brute-forcing your server.
Client = Linux Lite
Server = Ubuntu Server only
1. On the client, generate a key pair:
Code: ssh-keygen -t rsa -b 4096
choose a very strong password (10 or more characters - letters, upper & lower case, numbers and characters eg. %^#*)
This will give you 2 files, id_rsa and id_rsa.pub with 4096 bit encryption.
2. On the Server do:
Code: mkdir .ssh
touch .ssh/authorized_keys
nano .ssh/authorized_keys
Copy the contents of id_rsa.pub from your client into authorized_keys on the Server, then Save with Ctrl+o and Ctrl+x.
3. Change permissions of 'authorized_keys' and the '.ssh' folder on the Server to:
Code: chmod 700 ~/.ssh/
chmod 600 ~/.ssh/authorized_keys
Do: ls -l .ssh on the server, it should read:
Code: -rw------- 1 user user 744 Sep 5 21:41 authorized_keys
4. On the Server do:
Code: sudo nano /etc/ssh/sshd_config
Change:
Code: #PasswordAuthentication yes
to
Code: PasswordAuthentication no
and the following to:
Code: PermitRootLogin no
RSAAuthentication yes
PubkeyAuthentication yes
In the same file, change the port number from 22 to a 4 digit number eg. 7685 (this should avoid someone brute-forcing your server, you could strengthen more via your firewall, but that's another tutorial)
Save with Ctrl+o and Ctrl+x.
5. On the Server do:
Code: sudo systemctl restart ssh
or
Code: sudo service ssh restart
6. On the Client:
Code: ssh-add -k ~/.ssh/id_rsa
enter key password/s when prompted.
7. Create the following file in your home folder:
Code: touch .bash_profile
nano .bash_profile
copy the following into the file:
Code: if [ -z "$SSH_AUTH_SOCK" ] ; then
eval `ssh-agent -s`
ssh-add
fi
this will ensure you're not asked for your ssh passphrase after a reboot.
Connect to Server with:
Should work on a WAN too, just remember to port forward 7685 on your Router if you want to connect from the outside.
Folks are welcome to add additional security tips to this thread providing they work with the above set up.

nVidia GeForce Go 7600 display problems

Hello folks!
I have a laptop with nVidia GeForce Go 7600 the driver is NVIDIA 304.131, that one recommended by Linux Lite driver manager (tested). When I've installed the system and nVidia driver for the first time, all worked well. I had to reinstall the system and I made a fresh install. Since then (a week ago) some programs does not show on the screen and they appear to work as expected. Those programs are TeamViewer and Clementine. TeamViewer does not have a window on the screen, and when I try to maximize Clementine, it show that the program is running on the panel, but on the screen is no window. To make them work, I have to remove the nVidia driver and reboot the computer. Then, to make other programs to work and not shut down unexpected, I have to reinstall nVidia driver and reboot again.
The details of the graphics are:
Code: Graphics: Card: NVIDIA G73M [GeForce Go 7600]
Display Server: X.Org 1.18.3 drivers: nvidia (unloaded: fbdev, vesa, nouveau)
Resolution: ,
GLX Renderer: GeForce Go 7600/PCIe/SSE2 GLX Version: 2.1.2 NVIDIA 304.131
Please give me a solution to this because it is frustrating to run the computer like this.
Thank you!
