Hello,
every time i do an update i get this error....
couldn't fetch the package cache information lists
I only run firefox and is a new install.
I have only installed skype and no other software, my linux lite is a fresh install and is 32bit linux 3.19.0-33-generic
I have try'd the chrome error thing and got these results.
rm: cannot remove ‘/etc/apt/sources.list.d/google-chrome.list’: No such file or directory
And
Unable to locate package google-chrome-stable
And
sed: can't read /etc/apt/sources.list.d/google-chrome.list: No such file or directory
And
sed: can't read /opt/google/chrome/cron/google-chrome: No such file or directory
I try'd the google chrome fix as i read on the forum you need to do this fix even if you have not got chrome installed.
Any help please?.
Thank you.

How do I rename distros in my grub menu?

I have created a multiboot set-up on a GPT disk, made up of around 15 distros from the 'Ubuntu family', LL being in charge of the grub list. I have set this up on a cheap second-hand Dell Latitude D630, using this for demonstration purposes to show family & friends the wealth of choice available with Linux (Ubuntu-based) operating systems.
The problem is that some of these distros are named incorrectly in the grub screen list, for example:
ElementaryOS Freya is misnamed as Ubuntu 14.04; Ubuntu Gnome 14.04 is misnamed as Ubuntu 14.04, etc...
As I've already got the actual Ubuntu 14.04 installed, and this is of course listed correctly as Ubuntu 14.04, you can see the confusion that arises!
AustinTexas very kindly offered the following solution for renaming the distros, but it doesn't seem to have worked for me: maybe I'm doing something wrong? I notice the menuentry is repeated five times for each distro in the grub.cfg file. Do I edit each one of the five mentions for each distro or just edit the first menuentry mention? I have actually tried both but without success - I seem unable to rename the distros, as my efforts haven't led to a change in the distro names listed on the grub screen. This was AustinTexas' method but I was unable to get it to work...
Quote:Editing the titles for the Grub menuentries is a chore.
You would have to open /boot/grub/grub.cfg in your text editor.
Code: [Select]
gksudo leafpad /boot/grub/grub.cfg Then find each menuentry you want to edit. Anything inside the 'quote' marks can be edited.
EXAMPLE:
menuentry 'Korora release 23 (Coral) (on /dev/sda4)' --class gnu-linux --class gnu --class os
can be changed to:
menuentry 'Korora 23 on /dev/sda4' --class gnu-linux --class gnu --class os
Then after your edits are complete, save a copy of /boot/grub/grub.cfg to make editing a bit easier the next time you have to do it - which will be every time you do "sudo update-grub".
Any help on this one is very much appreciated, as always.
Cheers, Mike

HI...I downloaded LL on this old 32 bit hp laptop. I really like it but how do you dim the screen? I used the fn keys in Vista but they do not work in LL. The only other issue is no volume control on the taskbar but I managed to solve that one...Thank you in advance for any help. dansar

I've used "Main menu" to add a menu item in "Development". The progam ("Eclipse") comes with icon.xpm file so i thought i would use it. The entry appears on the menu but the icon is not. It's blank. Is there a way to fix this?
TIA,
Thomas

Set Default Playback Device HDMI

Unlike on Ubuntu 16.04 vanilla, on a new install of any of the 2.x, 3.x series of Linux Lite my default playback device is always set to HDMI even though my monitor doesn't have speakers. My audio device is a USB DAC that works fine with LL once I change the default sink.
Small thing I know but it mars the out of the box experience slightly for me, is it something you can/is worth addressing?

Screen frozen after sleep mode

I have had issues with my screen freezing after coming out of sleep mode. The situation has become so bad that I am now dual booting with another distro (Linux Mint) and have to resort to using that instead. The only way I can use LL is to power up from scratch. I don't want to kiss LL goodbye, can somebody suggest a remedy please? Should I wait until LL 3.0 is released? Can I upgrade over LL 2.8 - I read somewhere that is not possible. That being the case, what's the best alternative?
Thanks
Paul

I'm a complete beginner with Linux and want to run Lite alongside Windows xp.
I downloaded Lite 2.8 and have made a bootable usb. When trying to install I get to the Installation Type but this does not have a radio button showing 'Install Linux alongside them' as shown on page 8 of the Linux Lite Installation Guide which I am following.
Can someone please help.
