  ThinkPad E540 turn off TrackPad
Posted by: UltraCookie - 01-17-2016, 09:28 AM - Forum: Other - Replies (5)

Hi,

I have ThinkPad E540 and I'm getting more used to the TrackPoint but the E540 does not have separate mouse buttons and only the TrackPad for clicking so I can't deactivate it. I only want to use the TrackPad for clicking and maybe scrolling but not for moving the mouse. I tried turning the sensitivity all the way down but that does not seem to anything.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Hi all
I'm writing from France ! First sorry for my bad english  :Smile
I try Linux Lite some days ago and i like it ! A great job ! I used linux for a long time and i tested a lot of distribution just for curiosity.
I often prefer rolling and non-lts distribution but i like my first contact with Lite !
I had some problem to install the french langage and my wifi had some bugs.
Now with the forum read, the 4.4 kernel and some "chance" all is working good !
Have a good day all

aldrik

  Anyone using Veracrypt?
Posted by: greenisland - 01-15-2016, 04:49 PM - Forum: Installing Software - Replies (4)

I need to work on encrypting some folders that I plan to store in Dropbox, and after googling it appears that Veracrypt is the current leader and compatible with both linux and windows systems.

Does anyone have any experience, tips, or warnings about using it in LinuxLite?

thanks

  Dual-monitors?
Posted by: aviceda - 01-15-2016, 06:20 AM - Forum: Installing Linux Lite - Replies (4)

Tried to configure dual-monitors today but don't seem to be able to make the smaller right-hand one the dominant (main) one, have tried changing settings in 'Display' and tick 'Nvidia Settings' checkbox to 'Make this the primary display for the X screen' but always end up with the larger left-hand (TV) monitor as the premier, any ideas on how to fix this?

  linux-image-linuxlite-4.4.0
Posted by: Little.Walter - 01-14-2016, 07:57 PM - Forum: Installing Software - Replies (1)

Hi,

I'm not sure where I should be posting this, so if it should be somewhere else, feel free to let me know.

I refreshed my repositories in synaptic today and noticed that the "New in repository" category contained linux-image-linuxlite-4.4.0 and linux-headers-linuxlite-4.4.0. I installed them and set up my soft-links vmlinuz and initrd.img to point to them. Updated grub and rebooted. Result: everything is running perfectly!!

BTW: who is responsible for creating these packages?

Whoever it is: Nice job!!  8)

Ciao

My take / suggestions on linux lite
Posted by: chke419 - 01-14-2016, 05:31 PM - Forum: Suggestions and Feedback - Replies (42)

First off let me say this is the first linux distro that I've tried that I am actually impressed with being a windows user since the dos days with the 286 computers. Yes it's linux and I know very little about it then just the very basics but this has to be one of the simplest transitions I've found so far.

I downloaded it, transferred it to the thumb drive and installed it to another and off I went to setting it up on my Dell M6400. I was not surprised linux still lacks in drivers nor the desktop still looks flat and the icons are boring but I got the basic drivers installed and just put up with the dull desktop theme for now.

The main suggestions I have for this distro is:

1.) Explaining my thoughts ........ MS Windows started messing up when they started confusing a OS with packing it down with mandatory software from the company. Linux lite could learn from this right along with most other linux distro's out there. If your gona push a distro then push it but don't push the programs. Another words, I know all OS's need some software to be able to work the OS however the office software, multimedia software ect. doesn't need to be there, like I said earlier push a clean distro, that's what the repositories are on the OS for which I should add are very easy to use, even for me.

2.) The extremely plain and flat icon's and bar will have some people killing themselves to figure out themes which I won't mind saying is more of a headache then one deserves. On that manual it says to go to several sites and find a theme and I found more themes then not that will not work with a default linux lite. With mostly flat 2 color grays and blacks it's even hard to see some of the default icons on the bar not to mention depressing. Even though some will disagree MS Windows uses vibrant colors and 3D effects to liven up a dull desktop, I hate to say it but even Windows 3.11 looks more interesting then this distro visually. Not to mention you can easily see it.

I know this is only just my thoughts but I would rather spend time installing software I want then going through the major headache of killing myself trying to find a colorful theme so I can see an exciting distro especially being new to linux.

So in summery this is a well put together distro that I find I could switch to however stripping it down to a true only distro and making it look more lively, easier to see and more exciting could be major improvements.

  Hi from Melbourne

Have an old Dell - Dimension 3100 (Pentium 4) and have been trying out various distros, Mepis, Antix, PCLinux et al but am very impressed with the ease and efficiency of Linux Lite 2.6, it picked up my wifi adaptor from the live-CD and continued through the install (which quite a few other distros had failed to do)

Love the 'Lite Tweaks' too

I even managed to install the Variety-Wallpaper changer http://peterlevi.com/variety/ with no dramas.

I can see this becoming my 'distro-of-choice',

Well done!

Tom
