QT4
Posted by: mooseman - 11-05-2015, 11:58 PM - Forum: Installing Software - Replies (1)

I am using LL 2.6 and recently upgraded XFCE to 4.12 and also the Kernel to 4.12.  However, I am trying to improve the look of some of my applications...KeePassX for one.  I believe I only need to install "qtconfig" but don't know how.  I tried the package manager but there is no listing for it.  I also looked for some command line instructions but nothing worked so far.

Thanks in advance!

Tom

Printer doesn't stay enabled after reboot HP 3500
Posted by: paul1149 - 11-05-2015, 04:14 AM - Forum: Printing and Scanning - Replies (10)

This is not a terribly big deal, but lately my HP 3500 printer does not remain in the Enabled state upon rebooting. I'll run a print job, then have to open the Printers dialog and enable the printer almost every first use per session. I've made sure the printer was on and settled before initiating the job, but that changes nothing. Printer is on USB.

  Using network-manager-gnome to bridge eth0 and wlan0
Posted by: wnl - 11-05-2015, 12:54 AM - Forum: Network - Replies (30)

I installed Linux Lite on my ASUS Eee PC1201-HAB Netbook specifically because it seemed to have a version of network-manager-gnome which allows one to add a WiFi entry to the Bridge slave list. When running Windows XP on this same computer, I am able to "bridge" the Ethernet and WiFi connections so as to allow the machine to bridge two segments in my LAN, namely between this machine and the router downstream of it (or daisy chained to it).

I have been able to set up the Bridge, and have played around with every configuration gadget I could find. Basically, the Bridge never activates. (Actually, at one time I had all three devices showing in the "Connection Information" tabs. But eth0 shows up as the default and seems to be where packets get sent unless it is disabled.)

So my question is very simple: When one has a Bridge configured, how is it made to activate, i.e. what triggers it to go configure the eth0 and wlan0 interfaces, try to connect, and login to the WiFi and begin working?

Thanks for any and all help you can offer.

  TeamViewer 11 Beta

I don't usually include beta's in software repos, but on this occasion, after testing v.11, and taking into consideration all the new features, I felt it deserved inclusion.   Linux for Windows converts ?
Posted by: Colin23erk - 11-02-2015, 09:15 PM - Forum: On Topic - Replies (7)

I expected LinuxLite to be a lot easier for people who just want a easy to use PC that would allow them to use a computer for hobbies etc  they want it for and not to be a Computer Hobbyist.
Linux may have come a long way but I am confused by all the branches it has taken especially when I have a problem and try to find help on the internet .  It appears to be out of control without any overall aim . If all the effort was channeled into a few distros with individual aims to supply a distro  for different sorts of users " like a Windows replacement" etc the progress should be better .

Whilst I appreciate all the help I have received I would have preferred not to have needed to seek  help in the first place . I just want to get on with actually using a computer for my purposes Unfortunately the people with Computer knowledge  who help us often use the CLI instead of GUI solutions . That is OK from their point of view when they understand what they are talking about . To me using the CLI as being told by an expert is similar to blindly following a Sat Nav  > Turn left > turn Right etc and end up over a cliff because I do not know what direction I should be heading

I was happy with Linuxlite when it works as I want it to but I am finding the learning curve too high especially needing to use CLI when I encounter problems . I want to be led by the hand by an easy to understand program with dialogue that gives me an idea of what is needed . Even a lot of the GUI programs documentation leaves a lot to be desired .

One sad thing about Computer Program use and Electronics etc is  we are often not even told everything that they should be able  do .
The designer/ Programmer  "should know" what he has done and tell us ? How do we know if something is working correctly if we do not know its facilities. Getting them to do it is another problem .

Even a Tree view  of what it can do would help to guide us where to look. Computers were supposed to make life easier and be able to give us help . They cannot even help us diagnose their own problems (eg Error 12345) but no link to where we might try to find what it means or how to fix it .(eg ask your System  Administrator) Thats when I have to start talking to myself as I am both ?

Take Me to the Madhouse-- Please

  Lost files

I was using Session and Startup to try to Automount my Data partition from a Mint Forum post

This used "Disk" but it did not work for me - the options were Greyed out so I tried this

Menu > All Applications > Startup Applications >
Add (opens little window), put:
udisks --mount /dev/sdx
(where sdx is the name of your disk)
in the 'Command' text box. Name process
something like 'Auto-mount', hit 'Add' and
make sure it's ticked under 'Startup programs'.

I had a "Startup" for Keepboard which did not work after I used (udisks --mount /dev/sd5) etc for 3 partitions. Even the LinuxLite sound was not given even though it was ticked . It might just be coincidence but when I removed my additions to Startup it came back but Keepboard did not ?

When I check for the "Keepboard"it is not found even with Hidden files searches .

I am looking for help to see if the Keepboard Files can be recovered using if possible a GUI . My recent attempts at finding solutions only seam to result in finding I need a solution for my solution -etc etc
