  Error: KERNELS - Lite Tweaks
Posted by: Zead - 05-25-2015, 11:54 AM - Forum: Other - Replies (5)

Happens every time I remove kernels via Lite Tweaks. Is it normal bug? Or maybe it failed to remove some kernel files?

Hopefully found a non-bloatware fast, responsive OS
Posted by: jim7fl - 05-24-2015, 11:52 AM - Forum: Introductions - Replies (5)

Just installed in virtual box and testing. Hoping this might become a replacement for Linux Mint which argues with me excessively.

Small amount of background on me.

First computer was a 64K dual floppy IBM PC in early 1984 or 1983, I forget.  Anyway, DOS 1.0, Basic 1.0.  Ordered the basic machine from Sears Business in Atlanta without floppy drives.  Ordered two Tandon drives from somewhere else and installed myself.

The kids at church are always telling me, "you know WAAAAYYYY too much about computers for your age!".  Smile

Best Regards,

  Looking for a Volunteer
Posted by: valtam - 05-23-2015, 06:03 AM - Forum: On Topic - Replies (6)

Hi folks,

With the new Help Manual well under way, we're looking for someone to help us finish the Glossary page.

From the Manual, we've gathered the following words:

Code:
3g
alsa
architecture
bios
compositing
credentials
decrypt
desktop environment
developer
domain
driver
encrypt
ext2
ext3
ext4
filesystem
firmware
free software
fstab
gnu
gpt
grub
ip address
kernel
legacy
linux
logical partition
mbr
mount
nas
ntfs
open source
package
partition
ppa
primary partition
pulseaudio
repo
repository
samba
secure boot
ssd
su
sudo
terminal
trim
ubuntu
uefi
umount
uuid
vpn
workgroup
xfce

So that we can transfer the final result quickly to html, we need it to be in the following format:

In LibreOffice Calc, in 2 columns. First Column is titled Word, second column is titled Meaning.

The Meaning should be around 10 words or less. It needs to be consise and simple. Please, no drawn out, paragraph explanations for each word Smile

Your name will appear on the Glossary page and the main page, so you will be credited Smile

Please reply to this thread if you are interested.

Thank you,

The Documentation Team.

Linux Lite boot and shutdown issues.
Posted by: littlefeather - 05-22-2015, 04:18 PM - Forum: Installing Linux Lite - Replies (4)

Hi.
First visit here, thanks for hosting this forum, and thanks for this excellent Linux distro.
My fondest hope is to replace windows with Linux Lite.

I have encountered a small bug similar to kevin kane, here:
https://www.linuxliteos.com/forums/insta...fi-signal/
This post was moved here from kevin kanes topic.

When booting ver 2.4 from a live CD or a USB stick, the startup is a bit slow, and the shutdown does not finish.
The .iso hashes check OK.

Burned the cd using BurnCDCC in windows xp.
Boots and runs ok, but the shutdown is slow, and doesn't finish.  When the scrollbar finishes, nothing happens.
But after the scrollbar does finish, tapping the spacebar on the keyboard turns off the power to the desktop.

Installed to a 4gb Verbatim USB stick using YUMI version 2.0.1.6.  Didn't work.
Boots to a black screen with a flashing cursor in the top left corner.

Reinstalled to the USB stick using win32diskimager ver 0.9.2.
Boots and runs ok, but has the same shutdown issue as the cd.

Gparted running in ver 2.4 pops up an error saying "LibParted bug found!.  Invalid partition table - recursive partition on /dev/sdb."
Acronis Disk Director running in windows shows the USB to have one partition of 758 mb with an "Invalid format" error, and 2.99 gb of unallocated space.

@ rokytnji
The USB install is a live session now, am hoping to get it to persistence.

More information about this machine, but this is not the machine that will eventually receive the installation:
linux@linux:~$  inxi -Fxxxz

  screen saver and shut down
Posted by: tomt - 05-21-2015, 02:54 PM - Forum: Other - Replies (12)

Hoping for some help here. I have a problem with sceensaver. I Cannot turn off screen saver even though I removed it from software and all other packages related to screensaver. Computer goes black after a certain period of time and only comes back on when I move the curser that includes even if I am watching a video. I am on an HP desktop with 500+GB and Linux Lite 2.4 with Adobe flash updated on all three browsers that i am running. I have removed all and any software related to screen saving. Running 3.13.0-24-generic (x86_64) GNU compiler version 4.8.2 (ubuntu 4.8.2-19 ubuntu 1) Do not need screen saver and need to fix unexpected  black out every 15 or twenty minutes. I have no graphical front end to adjust. Thanks to anyone with an idea on how to fix this.

  whisker menu changed????
Posted by: TMG1961 - 05-21-2015, 09:36 AM - Forum: Other - Replies (11)

Has the outlay of the whisker menu changed? It now says Applications instead of Menu and is actually upside down..before all settings, lock screen, switch users and log out icons where on the bottom right and now they are on the top right.

Not sure if its me or that the whisker menu has changed and i missed something along the line.

  Old Geany version?
Posted by: BrainHijacker - 05-20-2015, 05:34 AM - Forum: Installing Software - Replies (5)

I've never used Linux seriously, but I want a lightweight version of it for using GCC for my studies. I have a few questions:

1) Who is maintaining the software repositories? Aren't they the same as Ubuntu? Why is the Geany version I installed two years old? Is it the same with most apps?

2) Why is the update checker just a text dump with no options?

Bonus:
3) Why couldn't I use my yahoo.com email account to register on this forum?!

encrypted drive shows non-moving progress bar, no passphrase prompt
Posted by: vacated1 - 05-20-2015, 12:16 AM - Forum: Installing Linux Lite - Replies (1)

Hi...

New to this forum. I'm a Linux user, but not a super technical user.

I've installed Linux Lite 2.4 32 bit in the encrypted drive option. However, most(not all) attempts to boot produce a feather image over a creeping or not moving progress bar which doesn't reach the passphrase prompt. Sometimes manually turning it off and restarting brings up the passphrase prompt. I reinstalled thinking this the easiest solution, but no better. The same problem exists.

All internet searches have come up dry (if I searched right, that is). Any pointing in the right direction is appreciated. Thanks in advance!
