The lunatic looking to the future during the full moon

Ikey Docherty the original developer of Mint LMDE made a comment on the LMDE forums when LMDE first appeared

Quote:We might have to write a new shell, it can't be that difficult
That got my attention but he disappeared from the forum shortly afterwards as he never intended to use update packs but Clem insisted.

He made a post on the forum about 12 months later announcing the launch of a beta for his new  Debian stable based distro SolusOS which had updated kernels and updated apps but on the stable base.

That ran for 12 months and then he brought out an some alphas for Debian Wheezy but then decided to start again but using the PiSi package manager developed by a Turkish university, he's not afraid to start again instead of ploughing on.

He brought out a few dev editions but then suddenly he closed down SolusOS which was a huge disappointment, what was worst for me personally was that shortly afterwards my plan B  Anthony Nordquist a network manager closed down SalineOS and moved to Manjaro. [Image: nxcKGx0.gif] I'm up the creek without a paddle.

I tried a few rolling releases but that's not the way to go so I started looking at Ubyntu LTS editions and that's why I'm here.

Anyway 12 months or so later Ikey launches an alpha of EvolveOS using a new Linux base and a fork of the PiSi package manager and a new desktop environment he calls Budgie. I lurk his google+ page and the quality of the devs and designers there are well quality, I even saw Mark shuttleworth make a post there about compiling the base kernel or something.

Two weeks ago he launched a beta, it's still not ready for the likes of me but this link just got posted http://www.techrepublic.com/article/why-...om-ubuntu/

So if I might be right maybe we should be looking to produce an Xfce version or some derivitive.

EvolveOS at https://evolve-os.com/about/

Another one who post and collaborates with Ikey is Michael Spencer @ http://papyros.io/

I'm jiggered after all this effort, I need to chill, If I get a knock on the door I'll be very

[SOLVED] Lunatic is having problems booting after installing
Posted by: ukbrian - 02-05-2015, 07:33 PM - Forum: Installing Linux Lite - Replies (14)

This is happening to me on two machines both AMD, ATI boxes.

With 32 bit
Standard install nothing strange and I've tried with putting the grub in the root and into the MBR but when I boot all I get in the grub menu is

Code:
Description: (on /dev/sdc6)
/boot/initrd.img-3.13.0-24-generic (on /dev/sdc6)
Description: (on /dev/sdc6)
/boot/initrd.img-3.13.0-24-generic (on /dev/sdc6)
Description: (on /dev/sdc6)
/boot/initrd.img-3.13.0-24-generic (on /dev/sdc6)
The duplicate lines are a grub2 bug but it don't boot off either option.

The 64 bit version boots OK  but I prefer using 32 bit.

I've tried multiple DVD's, checked the md5 and tried on different HDD's

  Hi Folks

Hi Folks,

I'm Bruno and I live in the UK. I've been using LL2 for about 3 weeks now and I think it is the business!  Wink

I've been distro-hopping for a few months after using this lappie with Win8 and, being unable to upgrade to Win8.1 (I tried, believe me I tried  :-\ ) I moved over to linux.

I've settled on LL2 because, well, I like it. Wink

Remaster / Livecd / Systemback / Customizing Iso for friends
Posted by: greenisland - 02-04-2015, 02:01 PM - Forum: Other - Replies (3)

I have been using LL now for six months, and really like it.  My current issue is that I have a couple of tweaks I want to make before I install Linuxlite on a friend's computer (and several of my own), and that leads me back to prior discussions of live-cd making and remastersys, etc.  The type customization I am focusing on is setting up the XFCE panel at the bottom of the screen with the particular options I (and my friend) are looking for, making sure a couple of key desktop icons are in place, etc.  I gather that may also mean that I'll need to understand how to make sure my XFCE configuration gets into etc/skel so that when my friend installs on his new computer, he can set up his own user account.

Over the holidays I purchased blacklabimager and I am fairly pleased with that, but I am still looking for other alternatives for making a custom livecd.  My personal home folder has grown pretty large, and I have lots of programs installed, and and I am going to have to figure out how to scale that back and deal with the iso size limit.

I could probably study the command line options for blacklabimager (if there are any) but I am looking for something easier.    I came across SYSTEMBACK http://sourceforge.net/projects/systemback/  which says it can do system and data backups AND create a livecd with lots of options.  Does anyone have any recent experience with this or alternative methods for customizing a livecd?  I've seen a couple of threads over six months old, but this seems to be a moving target.

thanks

  [SOLVED] Linux Lite Won't Run
Posted by: stafroz - 02-04-2015, 03:52 AM - Forum: Installing Linux Lite - Replies (14)

Hello,

I have Acer Aspire V5-471G with partition:
1. windows recovery
2 & 3: root and home for LinuxLite
4: Extended partition
4.1: swap partition
4.2.1 & 4.2.2: Fedora root and home partition
4.3.1 & 4.3.2: Voyager root and home partition.

I installed the iso into USB using the dd command followed the LinuxLite manual. The USB live working great except when I open gparted there's warning Libparted bugs found (recursive partition) on the USB.

Then I installed LinuxLite to that partition2. The installation went finish. I restarted my laptop but it won't run LinuxLite with
error: failure reading sector 0x239d18 from hd0.

Could you help me?  thanks.

  Problem with browser Firefox
Posted by: Boschini - 02-04-2015, 03:28 AM - Forum: Other - Replies (6)

Hi, Im having the following issue. I have Linux Lite intalled in my computer and everything works fine. The only problem I got is, when start Mozilla Firefox, it tries  to connect to any website (I set www.google.com as "Home") and keeps trying and trying and at the end says it could not connect to any server. The weird thing is, I open the terminal and when I ping any website, it pings perfectly (what means I have internet connection). What can be the problem? Any idea why this is happening? What settings should be set in the browser to work properly?

Please help. I have tried anything and nothing seems to work.

Thanks,

Alberto

  [SOLVED] Log file error
Posted by: LL-user - 02-03-2015, 09:06 PM - Forum: Suggestions and Feedback - Replies (4)

Hi,

My first post here. I'm just setting up my first production machine with Linux Lite after testing it for quite some time. Congrats and BIG THANKS to the developers for such an outstanding distribution!

I just run into the problem that syslog is not logging, a topic that has been brought up in this post:
https://www.linuxliteos.com/forums/index...#msg5233By t

I'm a bit confused that such a fundamental issue has not been fixed before the release!? With this issue obviously even the provided Log File Viewer is not working.

May I please ask for clarification and whether the developers don't consider a working log file mechanism an important part of the system?

As the OP of the post above I'd be very keen on using LL in the future in production environments and as recommendation to customers/ users.

Thanks for your efforts!
