  Hello from Illinois!
Posted by: KimG - 12-09-2014, 12:57 AM - Forum: Introductions - Replies (12)

Hi everybody! Fairly new to the whole Linux world but have been fiddling and what not for the last year trying to learn. I've revived an old Dell Dimension 2100 running XP and LL 2.0 in dual boot, atm. Have tried several distros but I really love this one.

  [SOLVED] Re: Whisker menu woes!
Posted by: justme2 - 12-08-2014, 10:18 PM - Forum: Other - Replies (17)

Whisker Menu button/Rightclick/'Edit Applications' has become inactive (greyed out) and a new menu option I added through Alacarte does not show on the Whisker menu. Also the Whisker layout has reversed - the main list is on the right and the selections are to the left. If I move the whisker button to the right of the panel, the layout is correct. The menu system is the weak point of Linux Lite and is a bit discouraging, having reinstalled numerous times only to restore a working menu. Reinstalling is very time consuming but I really like Whisker menu. Other distros have problems with Whisker Menu too. Just to be sure, I have not clicked the menu restore defaults button at any time. This situation has somehow re-occurred.

Is there any known repair solution, avoiding reinstall? I desperately want to stay with LL2.

TIA

Creating a bootable installation DVD vs Buy one
Posted by: FMG - 12-08-2014, 06:48 PM - Forum: Installing Linux Lite - Replies (10)

I'm new to this and through my research I'm not sure I have the knowledge( nor find a step by step) to create a "bootable" cd to install Linux Lite. So I'm thinking that it would be worth the $15 to buy it. Can any one point me in the direction to learn how to DIY.

  Installing 2.2 from usb
Posted by: bfb - 12-08-2014, 09:18 AM - Forum: Installing Linux Lite - No Replies

3 little 'bugs' I came across

1) I found I needed to make a usb stick with unetbootin 6.0.8 not the version 6.03 in the standart repository
I used the ppa here  http://www.sysads.co.uk/2014/06/install-...ntu-14-04/ to do that

2 I use a french keyboard and although I chose that at installation it wasn't used so before I could get into terminal to up date I had to manually add French keyboard in settings

3) As with lite 2.0 my wifi driver was unselected automatically and to get it working again I had to go in via 'additional drivers' and select the one that had been unselected

Linux Mint ships with Google's Noto fonts
Posted by: Mike - 12-07-2014, 11:47 PM - Forum: Off Topic - Replies (6)

I recently read that the newest LM now ships with Google's Noto fonts. I looked into it and and I can see why. The aim of the fonts is to support all of the world's languages. Personally, I like the way they look too. Check 'em out if you want: www.google.com/get/noto.

And because I'm addicted to Thunar's custom actions, I made one for installing fonts.

Description: Move fonts to ~/.fonts
Command: mv %N ~/.fonts
File Pattern: *.ttf;*.otf;*.ttc
