Speeding my boot |

Now I have the right desktop and language I thought I'd see if I could speed up the boot time before I handed over the laptop to my wife.
I'll remove Bluetooth and printer from the autoload as she does not use either of them.
One of the things that have come up with Google is the reprofiling of the boot. I'll paste the text below. Can someone with an understanding of Linux Lite let me know whether it is something to try. Thanks
Tony..........
Go to the terminal and type in
sudo gedit /etc/default/grub
enter your root password, and wait for a file to open up.
look for the line that says
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash"
and remove the words "quiet" and "splash" ( NOTE : THIS WILL DISABLE YOUR LINUX MINT SPLASH SCREEN, it doesnt help THAT much, but in my opinion it helps a little. )
also, add the word "profile" into that space. this wiill profile your boot and make it faster everytime, ( NOTE : THE FIRST BOOT AFTERDOING THIS WILL MOST LIKELY BE SLOWER, DONT WORRY! IT IS JUST REPROFILING YOUR BOOT NOW )
So basically make that line look like this --
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="profile"
Save and exit!
Open up a terminal again and type
Sudo update-grub2
enter root password, wait for it too update, and then restart your computer.

Hello,
Zyxware technologies Pvt Ltd.(http://www.zyxware.com) is a Free Software company which has been actively contributing to Free Software and offering commercial services around Free Software for individuals, enterprises and government organizations across India. To create and promote an awareness about Free Software and related freedoms in society, we have also organized Free Software campaigns like Freedom Walk across our home state of Kerala, Freedom Toaster, a kiosk to get a burned DVD of desired distribution of GNU / Linux, etc..
One of our offerings to FOSS community in India is a 'Request CD' program through which we send across CDs and DVDs of GNU / Linux distributions (and other FOSS software) to people across India on demand at a nominal charge. This service is especially useful for users who hail from remote locations in India and do not have access to high speed internet service and for those who have to pay a large amount of money for the data downloads when they have internet access.
We have added your distribution to our online shop www.zyxware.com/shop. The link is http://www.zyxware.com/requestcd?&distri...Linux+Lite It would be great if we could formalize our relationship by registering as a vendor on your website so that FOSS users from across India can procure the CDs/DVDs through our program. We hope for a positive response and look forward to a successful association with your esteemed organisation.
Thanking you,
Sindhu

Incorrect info about keyboard on task bar |

I've had a struggle to get the keyboard on my Sony Vaio to use, and retain, certain characters such as the @ key.
It seems to be because it is a 102 key keyboard and I need English UK rather then English US.
I seem to have got it to work but when I click on the keyboard icon on the taskbar it still shows English US. Does this matter? I'd feel more comfortable if it showed English UK or at least a choice.
Thanks for any help that is coming.

[SOLVED] Want Shutdown Icon on Desktop |

I'm setting up a Sony Vaio with Linux Lite for my wife.
The shutdown icon on the menu, and the new one on the taskbar, are both small and hidden.
I have two icons on the desktop - browser and email.
I'd like a third - to turn the laptop off.
What do you wizards suggest, please?

Broadcom network card doesn't connect to wireless network |

I have a Dell Inspiron 1501 running Linux Lite 2.0. I'm very happy with how fast it is (much better than when it was brand new running Windows Vista!). However i cannot connect to wireless LAN. It finds the network, but doesn't connect (password is correct, signal strength is excellent, power management is off, bluetooth is off, wifi works on other devices). The wireless adapter is Broadcom with BCM 4311 chipset.
I know many people have trouble with Broadcom wireless adapters, and i've tried some ' standard' stuff that seems to work in many cases but not in mine. I see that there are also some more complicated solutions around, but since I'm new to Linux it feels like I would be randomly trying without having any idea if it could help in my situation. So I'm hoping someone could give some more specific support.
What I tried (at least since the last time I reinstalled) was this https://www.linuxliteos.com/forums/index...pic=1021.0 (reinstal, update but don't reboot, install additional driver, reboot). After that I didn't have any wireless nor ethernet anymore so I entered this in the terminal:
sudo apt-get remove --purge bcmwl-kernel-source
sudo modprobe b44
sudo apt-get install linux-firmware-nonfree
sudo modprobe -r b43 && sudo modprobe b43
Which if I understand correctly removes the wrong driver that is installed through the ' Additional drivers' procedure and installs the firmware driver for the network adapter.
This got me my ethernet back but still no wifi so i entered this in the terminal:
sudo apt-get install firmware-b43-installer
Which I think installs an open source driver for the adapter.
Now the wifi light is on and it finds wireless networks but when I try to log on it doesn't connect.
Help is much appreciated!

You Tube flags, strikes, & bans |

I follow Puppy Linux World You Tube channel via RSS to watch his Linux Lite videos. Today he posted "Hi all with all the youtubers having their accounts terminated and I have had a strike myself I have decided to upload a daily WoW video until my account either gets terminated or my strike is lifted ..." in December. :'( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qs7HFolG...MSb53fFpqw I had heard him mention this before but had not paid much attention to it. He said it was due to one of his Linux videos.
I did some searching on the internet. I think a flag is a strike. I read/watched that if you get three copywrite violation complaints (flag) was made by the copywrite owners you are banned from posting on You Tube for life. To prevent this after the first complaint, you can take a You Tube class then after 6 months have the flag or strike removed. Or you can get the copywrite owner to remove the flag if they wanted. I think I understood this information.
If I misunderstand, please enlighten me. If I understand correctly, how could you get a flag or strike over a Linux distro video review since it is open source?
