After a while powered up (anywhere from a few hours to a few days), things start to get corrupted.  First (usually), it's random text.  Soon, it's ALL text (in and out of a browser) and finally, it's EVERYTHING including the desktop (it will show corrupted images of "stuff", usually from my last browser session.  This time, everything was jacked up except the toolbar.  A quick reboot and everything is fine again.....until next time.  The last time I played around with Linux (Ubuntu, I think), the same thing happened (on my SSD....I'm using a HDD this time) and I reinstalled Windows as nobody could figure it out.  It's not allowed to attach a screenshot but I have one if someone can figure out how to get it.  If this keeps up, I'll go back to Windows again.  (2 different HDDs (1HDD, 1SSD), same computer, different distros)

I would like to set up several workspaces but then be able to save them so that they return after a reboot. I have not had LL very long but my experience with both Windows and other Ubuntu distros is that using hibernate works fine except that things get unstable very quickly so you have to reboot and start all over anyway. Because of this, I rarely use multiple workspaces. But if they could be saved, well that would make having them make a whole lot more sense.

I hope someone knows how to do this.

After reading Linux Lite kernel post, I began to wonder about the pros and cons of upgrading kernel. Some comments in that thread expressed pleasure in improved performance with 3.15 (the general one, not the LL one), and now I gather there is 3.18 available. Before experimenting I would like to learn the pros and cons of doing such a thing.

Any advice, or is there a basic policy for LL2 which is taking care of that sort of thing automatically with the updates routines?

Post installation Transmission completion of job sound alarm doesn't work. I think the issue is in these two lines in the settings file (attached as text) in .config:

"torrent-complete-notification-enabled": true,
"torrent-complete-sound-command": "canberra-gtk-play -i complete-download -d 'transmission torrent downloaded'",

Can anyone point me in direction of substituting a sound it can play and how to write it in?
I have some sound themes in the usr/share/sounds folder (though don't know how to change sound themes yet) which presumably could be used.

I was going to post a picture of the desktop after I finished installing but I don't know how to do it here and when I read through the forum FAQ etc. I didn't pick up. Do you have clear instructions somewhere? Does it have to be such a clunky method of insertion?

Suggestion: in File Manager right click on the extracted directory (or file) and there should be a pull-down to install it right from there.

I installed the handy little utility alarm-clock, but no sounds selected would play (took a while to find out where some sound files are which is: usr/share/sounds - I still can't find things like this with any search utility and have to go online to find anything like that).

Later, I found out that in Settings/Appearance/Settings there is a place you can enable 'Event Sounds' and then Alarm-Clock worked fine. (I need it for work so it is an important little app for me).

Just poking around today and found that one item was not installed..."Weather Monitor". Check it off and click install, and the additional software applet just closes. Sorry if this was touched on before but I couldn't find anything. Any idea?

Just went through two rounds of installing and while still fresh offer the following:

When you close the install disk the main screen with login window remains in place and unless you hit Escape key, you are not prompted to take the disk out and then hit ENTER key. This is not the case when in recovery mode when screen goes to follow the scripts and the message is clearly displayed.

In Manual: there could be more explanation of various custom configuration options. I have a fairly typical setup (I think?), namely an SSD 128 GB drive and a 1TB drive where I keep all my data, storage files etc. I don't want to install the system on the Big HD but the SSD but the initial default choice only wanted to put it on the Big one so I had to go to custom install and the instructions are insufficient (in all distros I have tried).

First, the scripts could be improved with a few more multiple choice options (This issue might be one of the single biggest things holding people back from switching to Linux, I suspect). I don't program so forgive if not possible but things like:

A. Here is a list of available HD's, which one do you want to put the system on?
B. In order to have a working system you need a Boot, System and Swap partition, and some people like a separate Home partition (with explanation of what they do).
C. Implications if you want to dual-boot or have more than one Linux OS on the same drive with examples in the manual of different typical configurations.
D. Then I think it would be easier for people like me to quickly learn what they are shooting for and why.

Also in the manual a paragraph or so explaining what setups work and what don't and why, so people learn and understand the process. The way it is now it's very hard to 'grock' until you have made many, many mistakes. Your manual is the best of any I saw so far, which admittedly isn't all that many, but I think it could go further. Also again, I think it is high time for the user interface during installation to be improved, which is maybe an Ubuntu thing and not something you guys can change. It's just too opaque.

To get HD to mount at startup. Excellent feature in the manual but need 2-3 more examples of different situations, not just the /home one which is nearly always already there in fstab anyway I suspect. If the reader sees 2-3 different scenarios types out, again they will be able to understand what the script is saying and more easily figure out which particular language to use their particular case.

Section in Manual for how to save your Home and any other files before installation and then how to bring them back in after.

Although I had some problems, I have had a very good installation experience. I have the feeling that LLite is an OS which I will be able to control and understand and because of the care you have taken with the manual and the aid in installing popular software etc. I get the feeling the development team cares about offering something that is user-friendly. For new Linux users this is important because it is quite intimidating to be faced with many of the tips in advanced forums dealing with no end of little problems and often the answers are so 'geeky' that you don't know what to do with them anyway. Obviously I could work harder to be better in the Linux environment, but after 30+ years with computers I am now a bit tired of having to re-learn everything all the time and suspect I'm not the only one. I just want them to work and I want them to work now!! Of course that is a tad unreasonable, but also I think it is high time for the scripts to be better written in terms of user interface with various installation and program functions.

Congratulations and thanks. After I have it running for a week or so I might have more, but also will be ready to contribute. I hope to use this as my primary OS for the next year or two at least and become a much more proficient Linux user.  (I use this for business as well as home entertainment so it's a very important part of my life.)

ElementaryOS suddenly ran out of memory in its 20GB partition and in trying to clean it up (the Home files were in a different partition), and on recommendation of nearby professional techy, I deleted some log files and old kernel files and then it wouldn't run properly at all. For a while I have been wanting to give Linux Lite a try. I am an experienced computer user since 80's but never good at configuring, troubleshooting etc.

First I did a side-by-side install of LL2 in second adjacent primary partition which I created manually, since it wanted to put itself on my 1TB data drive which is off limits. It worked pretty well. Then I tried to re-install Elementary in the original first primary partition and that worked too. Then I went back to LL2 and it was not running things it ran before so I decided best at my level to have just one OS. Before making final decision, I installed Mint 17 on the third partition which is also where the /home was designated for both the others (after each installation I copied over saved files from original Elementary Home). Mint was nice but wouldn't accept my Thunderbird files like both LL2 and Elem. and in any case, I want to work with LL2 since it seems thoughtfully developed for a new Linux user (or technically challenged like myself), and I hope to work through all issues and become a proficient Linux user. I will offer a first impression evaluation later, but first have to get it running well!

So lastly I re-created and reformated all partitions and did a fresh install of LL2 with no other OS's and have not yet imported any old folders (mainly from Firefox and TBird) into the new installation. I did run updates.

The current problem is that originally when I ran out of memory with Elementary, sometimes the mouse wouldn't be responsive on booting up so I couldn't log in. I thought that was a memory related issue. But now the same thing is happening. Also, somewhere along the way, I couldn't get into the BIOS any more and still can't. Furthermore, it takes almost a minute with the BIOS screen up, and then booting up into the new LL2 takes another minute or so. It's very, very slow.

When booting up in safe mode before this last fresh installation, I noticed that the scrolling printouts kept hanging up at something to do with: 'usb 1-2  read/64 error  -110'. One time it seemed to change that to usb 3-2 using new highspeed, but then later the same error as before came with usb 3-2.

I have had some electrical issues in my home recently and will have someone come out to look, but the computer is connected via a power bar that is supposed to shield against surges, and also the power unit is supposed to handle that as well. It is a good quality unit I believe and only 2 years old.

I explained possibly too much, but this way whoever reads this knows some of the peripheral issues which may or may not be relevant.

Before the last installation I ran the Boot Repair utility disk and it did not recommend any changes and the booting slowness and inability to access BIOS remained then, and still remains now.

I am nervous less these problems indicate electrical or hardware issues, but first want to see if there are diagnostics which can be run to clarify what is going on, or, ideally, effect an easy fix.
