  Picture/image files won't open
Posted by: rbdflyboy - 08-27-2014, 08:31 PM - Forum: On Topic - Replies (9)

My picture/image files won't open on the desktop unless with an application. So which application opens picture/image files directly on the desktop? Tried gnome-open as a custom command and that didn't work. Is there a custom command that will work?

Drag and drop either does not work or does not exist?

  Linux Lite Framerate issues?
Posted by: Cobra! - 08-27-2014, 01:28 PM - Forum: Games Support - Replies (5)

I've been noticing some of my games, both Native and Wine games, have been running a pretty choppy on Linux, and originally, I thought it was the fact that I has too many resource eating programs up, but I've noticed closing them didn't really make a huge difference.

I was playing this game called Maniadrive (Trackmania clone), and it said it was running at 60 FPS, when it didn't look like it was running that smooth at all, so I don't get it. I've also noticed that Wolfenstein 3D w/ NewWolf and Maniadrive sometimes seem actually run 60fps only some of the time, and it seems random whether or not it does, it doesn't matter how many programs are running, or how long after I boot Linux Lite, it just seems random how smoothly the games will run. Sometimes they will run ~20-30 fps when it's the only game running, and sometimes it actually runs 60fps when I have a bunch of programs running/suspended in the background. Either way, Maniadrive insists the game is running at 60fps.

So what's going on? How do I go about solving the problem?

  Install gives me different destop
Posted by: RogerC - 08-25-2014, 09:41 PM - Forum: Installing Linux Lite - Replies (4)

The live CD runs with a very nice desktop, but when I install to disk it boots up with a different, rather clunky, desktop.  I thought this might be due to some config entries in my separate /home partition, so I reinstalled formatting /home as well as /.  Same result.  Any ideas?

  Forum Moderator Position available
Posted by: Valtam - 08-25-2014, 01:33 PM - Forum: On Topic - Replies (1)

Hi folks,

So that I can spend less time tidying and more time developing, I'm looking for some help maintaining the Forums here.
A Forum Moderator typically tidies up posts editing grammar, spelling, removing caps. They also move threads to the appropriate section eg. if a person posts a sound support request under On Topic, it needs to be moved to Sound. A Forum Moderator is also a peace keeper, they have a calm demeanor and don't let their emotions interfere with sound judgement.

It's not a big job, it really just needs someone who is already a daily visitor to keep things tidy and ordered. If this sounds like something you'd like to help out with, please let me know.

Thank you Smile

Internal Server Error on some posts
Posted by: Valtam - 08-25-2014, 01:25 PM - Forum: Suggestions and Feedback - Replies (12)

It's been brought to my attention that some people are posting lengthy posts, only to find out when they post it returns a 'Internal Server Error'. I know this can be incredibly frustrating and I am determined to rid the problem from the server, but I need your help.

The next time this happens to any of you, I need to know within 24 hours of it. The server logs are rotated every 48 hours so we need to catch this bug in action while it's still fresh in the system. Reply to this thread WITH a screenshot of the Internal Server Error and the time & date that it happened. Thank you.

  Microphone help
Posted by: okcalibob - 08-25-2014, 02:47 AM - Forum: Other - Replies (1)

I have tried everything I've read trying to get my microphone to work with no luck. Now let me say this I'm very new to Linux and only tech savvy enough to be dangerous. I don't see that my mic is even detected. but then again I wouldn't know where to look for that info.
Any help would be appreciated.

  Adding a custom action
Posted by: rbdflyboy - 08-24-2014, 11:56 PM - Forum: Installing Software - Replies (4)

Im order to do this in Thunar, does one have to do this:

"Hint: You may prefer the Thunar Archive Plugin, which does pretty much the same thing with less manual setup required on your part. It's either included with your distribution (in the case of Xubuntu), or available as a separate package (thunar-archive-plugin in Debian Etch). You might also need the xarchiver or “squeeze” package for things to work quite right."

In order to set this up:

"Setting an image as the desktop background

Name: Set as desktop background
Command:
xfconf-query -c xfce4-desktop -p /backdrop/screen0/monitor0/image-path -s %f
File pattern: *
Appears if selection contains: Image Files"

Right now can send my image file to the desktop, only can't open it and leave it there. Don't want to set it as the complete back round, just as a picture on the desktop.. Have tried to accomplish this with Gimp and Image Viewer and Desktop. Have studied  tutorials. can't seem to find the answer. Could you, please, lead me in the right direction.

Not quite sure if this is the right procedure (above) and don't want to break anything. or am misunderstanding the correct procedure..Thanks.
