  32 bits v/s 64 bits installation
Posted by: ludvicfer - 07-08-2014, 08:59 PM - Forum: Installing Linux Lite - Replies (2)

Hello Team,

I have a quick question, based on my hardware specs. What do you guys recommend for an Acer Atom 1.6 GHz (64 bits), 1 GB of RAM netbook, 32 bits or 64 bits installation?.  I have been reading about it, and found a few recommendations that I should use 32 bits instead of the 64 bits, but would like your opinion on this.

Best regards

LuD

  Libre Office Spell Check
Posted by: Colin23erk - 07-07-2014, 09:40 PM - Forum: Installing Software - Replies (9)

Having a problem with Spell Check in Writer opening but not able to see any errors even deliberate rubbish and reporting spell check  is OK .
Looking on the Web there appears to be an old problem - not loading a Dictionary - with it from Ubuntu and a reported fix that needs an update.
Looking at Synaptic there appears to be several components what is the best way to force an update . Re-installing Libre Writer had no affect
Anybody had the problem and fixed it

Colin

Samsung S4 Mini Doesn't Mount when Plugged In
Posted by: grnich - 07-07-2014, 06:44 PM - Forum: Other - Replies (6)

G'Day

I am running Linux Lite on my desktop.  When I plug in my S4 Mini, it shows up as a device in File Manager under 'Drives' but it doesn't mount.  When I try to open it by double-clicking on the SAMSUNG_Android icon, it errors out.

Failed to open "SAMSUNG_Android".
Error initializing camera: -1: Unspecified error.

Secure Overwrite of Free Disk Space
Posted by: Peter B - 07-07-2014, 09:45 AM - Forum: Installing Software - Replies (15)

Is there a Linux Program that will overwrite free disk space in a secure manner?
Or maybe a Terminal equivalent to the Windows Cypher /w: command?
For instance, after installing Linux Lite over the top of Windows, can the remaining free space be securely wiped and encrypted to ensure any 'leftover' files or documents from previous installations are inaccessible?

Windows file share - accessing network file storage 'outside' file manager
Posted by: Richard - 07-07-2014, 06:32 AM - Forum: Network - Replies (12)

I've just installed LinuxLite on a PC connected to my small Windows workgroup network.  Accessing files from the Windows PCs seemed to work without the need to go through any set up routine. I can see Windows files and transfer them to the Linux box via File Manager.

However, when using eBay to sell an item, when I open the 'attach pictures' dialog, a file access dialog box is opened but it
doesn't show network file access options. When using a windows box (which is what I'm used to doing) this file access dialog box is identical to Windows file manager and gives me access to networked file storage. Can anyone shed any light on this.

Many thanks.

Richard
