Staying On Topic in threads - Valtam - 02-17-2015 There are too many threads these days that are straying way off topic. As an example, if someone starts a thread asking for help on 'Printers' please resist the temptation to start talking about 'Volume Control' or your favorite cheese. This especially confuses new people to linux who are looking for brevity and good clear instructions. In the future unrelated posts will simply be deleted without notice. Thank you ![]() Re: Staying On Topic in threads - banko - 02-18-2015 Well said, Jerry. I've been on forums before they were called forums and some of the best were consistently spoiled, because you could guarantee a few posters would always stray off topic (to pontificate on hypotheses ![]() So thanks Keith Re: Staying On Topic in threads - anon222 - 02-18-2015 OK. ![]() Sometimes it's my fault the topic changes in a thread. Will do my best to stay on topic in the future. Re: Staying On Topic in threads - Valtam - 02-18-2015 No one has to apologize, many of us have done it at some point in time. We have a section in the Forum where people can waffle on about anything they like. We just need to keep the Support threads focused on the subject at hand with clear, helpful instructions. That's what we would all like to see I'm sure if we were the ones wanting support ![]() Re: Staying On Topic in threads - altman - 02-18-2015 Should be stickied . As we tend to forget with time . Re: Staying On Topic in threads - Coastie - 02-18-2015 I understand the problem but would it be too hard for a moderator to move the off topic post to a new topic and send automated standard e-mail to the poster that it has been done and why? Or at least sent an automated standard e-mail to the poster that the post was deleted, why, and welcome it to be reposted in a new post? Having been on this forum since it was created and before on its predecessor, I know this is a very friendly and helpful forum and one of the main reasons I stick with Linux Lite. A newby to Linux and/or this forum may have hurt feelings if the post was just deleted without explanation. The quality moderating which you have here because the mods not the sys admin set the tone and homeliness of forum should be valued and not abused by giving them unneccessary work, suggestions are always welcome but Jerry expressed a wish when he started this thread.I'll learn, honest, it's just that I'm a bit slow at somethings ![]() ![]() Oh well, to late ![]() ![]() I'm trying out photobucket, sorry for all the pics. ![]() Bye Bye ![]() Re: Staying On Topic in threads - rokytnji - 02-18-2015 Cmon,UK. Show some broad shoulders and thick skin and just shrug it off. We got huevos bro. I was born to raise hell and stay in trouble myself. It does not hurt my feelers when I step on toes. I take it like a man and try and not repeat. My inner nature may take a hit. But I got broad shoulders. Am a adult. And. Can take that. Must be true what they say. The older you get. The more you regress. I am down to a 16 year old mindset myself. And no. Quote:Being the main culprit, sorry Jerry you were very diplomatic in not naming me, It aint just you being the main culprit. I was bypassing gui help suggestions and just diving right into cli which was pointed out to me is not a thing to do here. Hard habit to break so I back off some now. But I do not pick up my toys and go home. Because I like to play with others. We wouldn't do this to a newbie, one of the Mods would point them to this thread. Re: Staying On Topic in threads - avj - 02-18-2015 Thanks for posting this. It can be quite frustrating to start a topic and have it be overrun by inconsiderate people "spamming" their personal interests to the point that the original topic gets overlooked. A topic may not be important to the one replying, but you can be sure it is important to the one who originally posted it. |
