Goodbye Windows, hello Linux - RCND - 07-02-2015 Howdy All: I am currently installing Windows 7 on my Mother's Computer. She is elderly and is more comfortable with Windows. It is an upgrade from XP. I started using Linux after a home build because i did not wish to give Mr. Gates anymore of my hard earned dollars. I started out with Ubuntu 11 (Narwhal) went quickly to Kubuntu. Since then I have downloaded and used many Distros. The one thing that I can honestly say is every new release gets better and more "Out of the box ready". My complaint is, I have forgotten all the crap that I have to install to make Windows a semi secure OS. I have been installing second party software for the last three hours and still haven't got to installing her old files. You guys ROCK, LINUX LITE ROCKS. See You Later Robert Re: Goodbye Windows, hello Linux - RCND - 07-02-2015 I would like to apologize for the title of my post. I do not hate linux, in fact just love it. In my opinion Linux has gotten so much better with each release, that the user does not have to do much at all when installing to have a fully functional OS. When I was using MS products jumping thru hoopes was normal for security reasons and I still remember "Driver Hell" for newly installed components. Take Care All. Robert Re: Goodbye Windows, hello Linux - banko - 07-03-2015 You don't have to apologise, it reminded me of the 10cc song, I Don't Like Cricket (I Love It) ;D Re: Goodbye Windows, hello Linux - shengchieh - 07-05-2015 Same with me. I forgot how to surf "safe". A few years ago, I visited my brother's family. Used my sister-in-law's laptop for 10 mins. Virus-infested. me bad. Grinning as he reads the main reason why he never touches his wifes Windows 7 Enterprise Laptop unless she asks me to unsnarl the knots in it., Re: Goodbye Windows, hello Linux - Jocklad - 07-05-2015 Updated windows 8.1 for an friend a few days ago. This was a brand new laptop. Installed anti-virus and malwarebytes. Malwarebytes found 103 malware files. I love my Linux....... ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Re: Goodbye Windows, hello Linux - DLX - 07-06-2015 ![]() Re: Goodbye Windows, hello Linux - newtusmaximus - 07-06-2015 However ![]() ![]() ![]() Re: Goodbye Windows, hello Linux - RCND - 07-07-2015 Doh! Forgot Malwarebytes : ![]() Robert Re: Goodbye Windows, hello Linux - tek10 - 07-17-2015 I also hated all the work to make windows only semi-secure. Decided to try Linux and installed Kubuntu for my first distro. Loved it but eventually started distro-hopping for an even better experience. Eventually found Linux Lite 1.6 and have been enjoying using Lite on my primary desktop computer for just over two years. I also converted three friends to Linux by installing Lite on their computers. A wonderful experience that has made computer use much less frustrating. |
