Acer Chromebook CB3-111 on LL 3.4 - No sound - JanetBiggar - 11-07-2017

I'm hoping someone can help me.  I have just loaded LL 3.4 on this chromebook as the OS and all seems fine, other than there is no sound from the speakers.  Sorry I didn't try the sound before converting the chromebook, however the person who donated it did not indicate the sound wasn't working so am assuming there were no issues with sound.

When I plug in an audio jack I do get sound through ear phones.  I have tried moving the volume switch both at the bottom right corner as well as in the video itself and no go, no sound.

What can I do to solve this?  BTW I am a very recent LL convert and only minimally computer literate Wink

Thanks,
Janet

Open a terminal and do:

Code:
aplay -l

and:

Code:
inxi -A

and report the results. Thank you.

Work through this here:

https://www.linuxliteos.com/manual/hardware.html#sound

and make sure your sound device is configured properly.

So I worked through the list as best I could.  I can see movement of the blue bar under the sound level indicating that it is playing (expect I can't hear any sound).  I went into each tab, but really couldn't see anything to change...

So I did a system report which I will attach.  Jerry I am unsure of how to "...make sure your sound device is configured properly"?

Thanks,
Janet

From what I have read, the only way to do this is flash a custom SeaBIOS, then edit some system files. This may be to much trouble to pursue. If you're comfortable do both, I can point you in the right direction, but there is also a chance the BIOS will brick your Chromebook.

Thanks for all your efforts and suggestions Jerry, I think I will quit while I’m ahead ?

I did have to change the BIOS to Seabios in order to get into developer mode to then put LL on the chromebook, however what you’ve eluded to sounds a bit over my head. Luckily I brought with me a USB audio jack so will include it and ear plugs with this computer when I place it with a youth.

This list is excellent and I appreciate the help,
Janet (who never runs out of questions!)

USB audio was an excellent choice Janet. Well done.
