At this point in time, everyone's expendable. That being said, linus' kernel isn't the only one; there are plenty more around! Linux "as we know it" is far from meeting its end. Even if big companies get their hands on and actually size some part of the giant and vast-infinite open source universe...well, that's basically it; it's huge for them to take away from us! Smile

Fear not my fellow linuxers and may the kernel be with you! lol

I have seen arguments for using the BSD kernel as a base for a distro as in Debian GNU/kFreeBSD http://wiki.debian.org/Debian_GNU/kFreeBSD_why.

Two weeks? I didn't think there was that many timezones, the Earth got bigger this year, it will have to take a new year's resolution and shed a few pounds! Wink

I begin to be a trifle doubtful now whenever I recommend Linux to friends and relatives.

And old blog posts like the one that follows do not help to assuage my concern:

The Linux kernel, especially the proprietary blobs that are part of it, is a special story ... that part is under the full control of powerful corporations (M$, IBM, Intel, etc.) so that every story about a particular "security" of linux is naive and irrelevant .

Users should decide what is good for them, and the linux kernel is in any case less and less "good", except for the companies that finance and participate in its development.
