New Recruit - Georg - 02-04-2020

Hello,
I'm new here and didn't instal Linux Lite yet.
Working still with Win 7, although it's not supported anymore.
I wonder if anyone could tell me if the things i made with Fotoshop, MS word, paint etc. that i saved on Win 7, could be saved to Linux lite, and then work with them in linux applications?
Best regards,
Georg.

Short answer... YES...
LL comes with LibreOffice out of the box - Very similar to MS Office
GIMP comes loaded - Similar to Photoshop
and Pinta for a MS Paint clone..

You can find Pinta in Lite Software once installed...

There are other Open Sourced variations of these apps but these are the ones that are default in LL.

You can test via a USB - Give the Release Notes and Manual a go over - great place to start.
Then create a LiveUSB to test/try and install...

*I would suggest knowing if you have a UEFI/Secureboot or BIOS version of Windows and download the corresponding LL installer.
All the info is the forum and manual..
Ask for any help along the way Smile

Before installing - as a precaution, I would back up any data you don't want to lose (that's for any OS btw)

Welcome!!!

Hi Georg and WeLcOmE! Wink

I have not tried it myself, but are you asking if you can "open" photoshop files on Linux?
Could work, but I guess maybe the Photoshop version could be important in this manner.
I guess this could be a weekend project, I have quite a few old .PSD I made years back Wink

Not that I want to ruin the party but if you have enough RAM to use photoshop like programs, maybe you should try Ubuntu first because you will find more drivers for any external material you may be using.

Thanks for the replys, they wil be very helpfull.
Though since i have no practice anymore, my English is slowly decomposing, and things like Secureboot, RAM BIOS, UEFI and OS sound like Chinese to me, I have to ask my Nephew, he's more updated with Computerstuff. He can help me with the process you sugested.
Greetings from Flanders (Belgium),
Georg.

The forums here are really helpful, that's why I stayed Wink

Keeping up with computer "speech" is a full time job, for most people, not worth the effort in my opinion as new acronyms pop up everyday.
A joke I like on the matter, I don't remember where from, is : "Standards are wonderful, there are so many of them!"
It's like cycling uphill, with no chain, LOL!

Your English seems quite fine, but there is a French forum if you need help... assuming your other language is French. Wink There are other language forums too, Dutch, German, etc.

Edit : Typos and added info.

Gimp runs photoshop files. If you are dual booting you can run them from the LL desktop

You will see other volumes on the desktop if you have others some have the name like Fedora,  My Windows 10 just has the size Volume and Manjaro is only listed as as the size and Volume.
You have to use a password to enter them. I  tried to rename them to Windoze and Manjaro but had no luck.
