and any way i do dmidecode or biosdecode I get the same results. also with any kind of program that can pull up your system info. its like this ole 32bit gaming machine was a secret

Do you still have Windows on the machine? If so run: wmic baseboard get product,Manufacturer,version,serialnumber from the Windows console. Otherwise you may have to find the asset tag on the box or internally. Brand name OEMs often tie the two together making difficulty for Linux decoding. Can you get to the onboard BIOS screen?

when i first got it, it did xp. this is the reason i chose to go to linux thinking i could get better results wmic had the same results!!!??? its alot but maybe this will help

and the oem is stored away in the slimtype cddvdr/rw/br disc it supposedly has almost 2g stored away or im misreading something. or its the intel built in graphics anyways it keeps locking me out going into hibernate even on bhodi. this is the only os ive been able to get to work without being shut out. this things like secret agent stuff or something lol'

Hi,
Alienware was bought by DELL years back.
If it's a "post" DELL, it should have the serial clearly visible on the outside or underneath the computer itself.
DELL call them "Service TAG".
