Losing Wifi hotspot when connecting to signal - jack action - 05-09-2021 TL;DR: Wifi hotspot on PC disconnects when phone tries to connect to it. New to Wifi. I bought the following wifi network adapter to make my PC a hotspot for my new smart phone to connect to: ![]() I could finally make it work by installing the driver from kelebek333 (from the PPA repo). I created a wifi connection with a method similar to this one. (The IPv4 & IPv6 settings are set to 'shared to other computers') I can activate the connection successfully, but as soon as I turn the phone on and it tries to connect to the wifi signal, the PC connection drops. Sometimes, it can last for a few seconds, just enough to download some notifications. Sometimes it drops by itself, but I think it is because some of my neighbors' machines try to connect to my wifi signal. What could be the problem? The driver? The hardware itself? Wrong set-up? Some info about my system: Code: inxi -FN Code: System: Code: rfkill list all Code: 1: phy1: Wireless LAN Re: Losing Wifi hotspot when connecting to signal - TheDead - 05-10-2021 How you tried connecting a cable for the "IN" and use the Wifi as the "out"? Maybe doing both with same adapter causes problems. Re: Losing Wifi hotspot when connecting to signal - jack action - 05-11-2021 What cables are you referring to? I just plugged the device in a USB port. The Internet comes in through an Ethernet cable plugged in the motherboard. Re: Losing Wifi hotspot when connecting to signal - TheDead - 05-12-2021 Oh! That's exactly what I meant. Using cable for internet and connection to local network and WiFi dongle only for HotSpot. I have a theory though, try using a different security WPA or WEP instead of WPA2, or just a test with security disabled. Why? Well, the first WPA2 cards gave me similar problems when they first came out, sooo... maybe related. Re: Losing Wifi hotspot when connecting to signal - jack action - 05-23-2021 Finally quit trying to make it work. I bought a used router for 20$ instead and I have wifi now. |
