I have been trying to update Linux Lite on my computer. Unfortunately, it cannot seem to fetch the package. Here is the entire error message:

There appear to be problems with three sources of software on your system.

https://repos.codelite.org/ubuntu - is giving error 403 which means it is refusing to authourise your request.
https://repo.skype.com/deb - is giving a DNS error which means the site name is not being translated to a working address.

These are probably temporary conditions and outside of your control.  If you want to keep the software from these sources there's not a lot you can do except to wait for them to be fixed.  In the meantime, you can suspend them from the list of active repositories so that other updates can work.  You'll need to keep trying to re-instate the repositories to check if they are fixed.  If you need help suspending the repositories please let us know.

If you don't want to keep the the software from these sources uninstalling the software may remove the problem

https://ppa.launchpadcontent.net/ondrej/php/ubuntu - this repository has changed some information about the software it holds and your system needs your permission to 'accept' the changes they've made.

If you 'fix' the other two problems and are happy with the changes that the repository has made you give your system permission to 'accept' them by opening a terminal (Ctrl Alt T). In the terminal window type or paste in this command

Code:
sudo apt-get --allow-releaseinfo-change update

This allows the update process to accept the changes - you will need to enter your password.
Once this command has been run (and you've fixed the other two issues) retry the update/upgrade.

I would love to receive help on how to suspend these repositories.

First, try updating again to see if problems 1 & 2  (error 403 and DNS) are still present.
In your case, these were
https://repos.codelite.org/ubuntu
https://repo.skype.com/deb

If the symptoms with these repositories are still the same, you can suspend them using the GUI

Click Menu and begin typing 'Software & Updates' into the search box.
When you see 'Software & Updates' offered as a choice, click on it.

In the window that opens, select the 'Other Software' tab
Look through the list for the references to the repositories that are still causing problems.
Remove the tick from the problem lines.
You will be asked for your password.
Close the window, then retry the update/upgrade process.

All being well, you will be left with the third problem.
https://ppa.launchpadcontent.net/ondrej/php/ubuntu
You will need to give permission for the change as described in post 2.

If you continue to have problems at this point, please repost providing a narrative of the step taken and the results.
If the update/upgrade works at this point, remember you still need to keep re-enabling the problem repositories to check if their problems are fixed (or uninstall the applications)

I just ran "INstall Updates" for Linux Lite. Unfortunately, I am still seeing the errors. Still not sure what menu you are refering to. Plus, since the last time we spoke, I have removed "SkypeforLinux". See screenshot. Here is the copied and pasted text:

Here are my questions:
1. What program do I need to open to gain access to the "menu" you mentioned in your response?
2. Is there any other applications I need to open to follow the steps in your strategy?

It looks like the problem with the codelite repository has resolved.

This error remains
Quote:Err:3 https://repo.skype.com/deb stable InRelease
503 Service Unavailable [IP: 23.38.229.67 443]

The skype repository appears to have been discontinued. Despite you uninstalling skype the repository appears to remain as an entry on your software update list..
To remove the repository from your update list follow this sequence
Click Menu <- this is the clickable button usually located at the bottom left of your screen with a feather icon
If you can't locate this, on the keyboard, you can press the 'Super' key (usually the key with the Windows logo).

A window should pop up, at the bottom right of this window should be a text search box with a magnifying glass.
Begin typing 'Software & Updates' into the search box
The system will will interpret what you type and offer various choices matching your typing.

When you see 'Software & Updates' offered as a choice, click on it.
In the window that opens, select the 'Other Software' tab
Look through the list for the references to any skype repositories.
Remove the tick from any skype lines.
You will be asked for your password.
Close the window, then retry the update/upgrade process.

The update/upgrade will still likely fail, but check to ensure that the skype related problem is no longer listed.
If it is still a problem report back and we will look into it further.

You will probably still have this error.
Quote:E: Repository 'https://ppa.launchpadcontent.net/ondrej/php/ubuntu jammy InRelease' changed its 'Label' value from '***** The main PPA for supported PHP versions with many PECL extensions *****' to 'PPA for PHP'

To fix this, open a terminal (press Ctrl, Alt, and T together). In the terminal window type or paste in this command followed by enter.
Code:
sudo apt-get --allow-releaseinfo-change update
Enter your password if asked.

This allows the update process to accept the changes made by the ondrej PPA.
Close the terminal window and retry the update/upgrade.

Quote:1. What program do I need to open to gain access to the "menu" you mentioned in your response?
'Click Menu' means the Whisker Menu button usually located at the bottom left of the screen (or press the Super key on the keyboard).
Quote:2. Is there any other applications I need to open to follow the steps in your strategy?
No - but if anything is not clear, please ask.

I have been wondering for a while now, why your quote says, "Clueless". Is this an attempt at humorous sarcasm?

Is your system updating ok now ?

The message
Quote:The following packages were automatically installed and are no longer required:
Shows your system has quite a few unused/unneeded packages including old/unused kernels.

When updating/upgrading the kernel, the system will keep existing kernels as insurance.
This is not a direct problem, but each time a kernel gets added to the system, the system boot options need to be regenerated to account for every kernel present on the system. This will add significant time to any upgrade involving the kernel.
In addition the old kernels take up disk space which can become a problem.

If you have plenty of disk space and don't care about the time spent on updates you can leave well alone.

It is considered good practice to prune unused kernels. There is a Lite Tweak utility called Kernel Remover which can tidy up.
See the manual at
https://www.linuxliteos.com/manual/software.html#tweaks
and read down to the bit about Kernel Remover.

No intended sarcasm in the sig - I suppose it is a disclaimer, originally came from a response from someone on the forum who didn't think the help offered was any good.
