wow many thanks for all detailed help.
I got plenty to try.

Right I loaded install gnome-disk-utility

then did sudo badblocks -v /dev/sdx
Checking blocks 0 to 78150743
Checking for bad blocks (read-only test): done                                               
Pass completed, 0 bad blocks found. (0/0/0 errors)

Did get any there then sudo hdparm -t --direct /dev/sdx as don't know unc of drive i.e C:/

Thanks alot
Note to self list to get fixed 1 by 1
