Yes, version 2.94 from the repository won't work - don't bother with it - I don't understand why Ubuntu haven't updated it in their repository. As I mentioned previously, it's already been superceded by 3.01 (which is now also out of date & wont work !) & we're now on to version 3.02-1.
I'm sorry you couldn't get the steps I outlined in reply #8 to work for 3.02 - it's a very good version, e.g. it fetches the TV listings much faster than before, using "concurrent indexing" to do this rather than the more sluggish "sequential indexing" of earlier versions. Also you can download simultaneously more than one TV programme. However, you seem to have found a method that works using the pid, though it does look somewhat more complicated than the usual method.
Since get_iplayer problems & upgrading seems to be a such recurring issue for those of us in the UK (AFAIK get_iplayer won't work outside the UK), I think I'll write instructions (with screenshots to make things clearer) in the member submitted tutorials section. I'll PM you when I've done it, so hopefully things will then be a bit easier for everyone concerned, me included ...
I'll get back to you again soon on this
Cheers
Mike

64bit OS (32-bit on Samsung[i] netbook) installed in [i]Legacy mode on MBR-formatted SSDs (except pi which uses a micro SDHC card):
2017 - Raspberry pi 3B (4cores) ~ [email protected] - LibreElec, used for upgrading our Samsung TV (excellent for the task)
2012 - Lenovo G580 2689 (2cores; 4threads] ~ [email protected] - LL3.8/Win8.1 dual-boot (LL working smoothly)
2011 - Samsung NP-N145 Plus (1core; 2threads) ~ Intel Atom [email protected] - LL 3.8 32-bit (64-bit too 'laggy')
2008 - Asus X71Q (2cores) ~ Intel [email protected] - LL4.6/Win8.1 dual-boot, LL works fine with kernel 4.15
2007 - Dell Latitude D630 (2cores) ~ Intel [email protected] - LL4.6, works well with kernel 4.4; 4.15 doesn't work
