To remove icons of uninstalled software look for the .desktop file for that particular program and move or delete if you don't intend to reinstall.
the .desktop files can be found in a hidden folder, namely .local/share/applications in your home folder or /usr/share/applications.
I suggest create a folder in your home folder such as "old-progs" and move these .desktop files there, then if you choose to reinstall you can move them back
