Single-core Intel Atom CPU: best adapted lightweight distros for this?

Perhaps this isn't an OS or processor problem.  I don't know how fast you expect things to be.  But perhaps you have a slow drive.  I wouldn't be surprised if your netbook has a 5400 RPM hard drive.  If so, consider upgrading it to 7200 RPM, or better yet consider upgrading it to a solid state drive (SSD).  See how fast Linux Lite runs on your single core, dual threaded PC then.
