Login loop after recent update - can't access system

Kris,
The same thing happened to me yesterday, i upgraded from linuxlite 4.6 to 4.8 and then on reboot i got a login loop.
Today as a last resort before trashing linuxlite 4.8,  i used my emergency grub boot rescue disk.
i altered my bios to boot off cd/dvd
on boot of rescue disk it repaired my grub
And now i am writing this reply to you from linuxlite 4.8

So get the rescue disk iso from https://www.system-rescue.org/
burn a copy to dvd or usb
it is well worth having.
