I actually have Linux Lite version 5.4.
Would you recommend downloading version 5.8 and starting over with that?

The in-series upgrades are optional.
In broad terms 5.8 is 'better' than 5.6, which is 'better' than 5.4 etc,
At this stage in the release cycle, anyone coming fresh to 5.x would get 5.8 over an earlier version. But if there is any problem downloading and creating a 5.8 boot media, using a known good 5.0 (or 5.4) is fine.  I think you have mentioned problems with burn software on another thread.
