How to upgrade from Linux lite 4.8 to 5.. without reinstalling?
Posted by: MysticReverie - 05-05-2020, 02:10 PM - Forum: Installing Linux Lite - Replies (10)

I've tried many distros. Mainly for portable USB.
THIS distro is the best, simply becasue it's easy to use and everything WORKS!

It's the only distro I've not had to troubleshoot.. and usually fail doing so.

I managed to figure out im Running 4.8.
Can I upgrade without having to do a fresh install?

If so, how?
Thanks !

  MP3 Tag Editor? [SOLVED]
Posted by: Tyrannocaster - 05-05-2020, 01:26 PM - Forum: Other - Replies (4)

Looking for something that will let me edit tag info manually on an entire folder of files. All I have that even comes close is Music Brainz, but it doesn't do this. Just need to be able to change/add title, artist, whatever to a whole folder of files. I did a folder manually just now via the Properties tab but what a pain that was; sixteen files, one at a time.

  Help (folders show full name)
Posted by: abhi - 05-03-2020, 06:46 AM - Forum: Desktop Customization - Replies (1)

Installed linux lite today ;D. All folders are showing full name :-[. I have very long folder names and because of that folders in the second row is pushed down because of long text folder name from first row. Is there anyway to change this so my folders dont get pushed down by long text folders. Thanx Wink

  Linux Basics: Useful Beginner Information
Posted by: H - 05-02-2020, 01:01 AM - Forum: Off Topic - Replies (5)

I have been working my way through the above modules. Which I might say has been very helpful so far.

There is a couple points of interest I thought, that I might mention here, if I may.

1. Linux is Not Windows
2. Snaps on Ubuntu

1. I came across the last item in the list of modules and links, "Linux is Not Windows"

good read, and takes away any pre concieved ideas, or thoughts one might of had about the Linux. It clearly tells you what it is not and what it could be.

Really good stuff, and my thoughts for that topic, I think should be the very first thing one reads before they do anything else before or after an install. I would have loved this to be the first module I read from that link, not the last.

As a new user , it just gives you a background into what you are about to embark on, so rather be at the end of these modules, it needs to be in the beginning, as that is where my ideas of what I think need to be set aside. And look at it from a different perspective. Instead of thinking, this should be just like Windows, remembering newbies do not know any thing, and it would clearly and concisely put them in the picture.
Just a thought!

2. Snaps on Ubuntu
Now any newbie who sees Snaps on Ubuntu as a head line, is not thinking Linux, but rather the mind goes straight to snap on tools lol.
So one quickly grabs the article and starts reading, and see' that it is a bit like a snap on tool.
My question is though, when reading the article, and how that the snap command and the snap file installation process packages, are a little more user friendly, but come at a cost of larger files taking up larger chunks of hard drive space, less support for older machines. It also appears to not have the same theme through out, and it is not always official.

From what I have read and one of the reasons I moved to Linux Lite, was to have continuity, ease (once you get the hang of it) of use, clarity, and official cohesion through out the releases. Better use of hardware and processes.

The question begs to be asked then! Why would one want to go down the Snaps road?

I do understand that it is a choice, if you like it, try it, if not then don't, but are the creators of Linux Lite looking at it in the future?

H

Linux Lite 5.0 installed the other week, and I see Snap is part of the setup now, guess I answered my own question Huh!

Today i got my hands on an ASUS X540L for a couple of minutes and i booted from live USB to Linux Lite 5.0 RC1 using UEFI. Wi-Fi and brightness control worked fine and everything else seemed to do so. I couldn't use it very much to see the performance and to give full feedback,i only got a hardware report but nonetheless i decided to share it.

Standard Keyring question after installed Spotify?
Posted by: LLUser - 05-01-2020, 06:35 PM - Forum: Installing Software - Replies (7)

Hi all.
My LL 4.8 still works perfect, and I'm very pleased with same.
However, I wonder if someone can assist with following: I recently installed Spotify from Lite Software. After logged in to Spotify, a window popped up and requested password for the Standard Keyring? I have not seen this before, and my question is if I should use my login password or leave it blank?
Thanks for all feedback.
