  TTY The Virtual Terminal
Posted by: H - 05-01-2020, 04:37 AM - Forum: On Topic - No Replies

Greetings Folks,

I am just going through the lessons  for beginners from a link I got here.
It is run by Gurru99, and this guy explains things really nicely and clearly for absolute new biginners trying to learn and understand some of the basics.

I completed several modules from him. The One last night though, did throw me into a spin. It was using teh Virtual Terminal. the Ctrl Alt F1 command brought up the terminal and instead of seeing the tty1 and login details all I got was a blinking cursor.

No matter what I keyed nothing worked, and so not realising that all I had to do was ctrl alt F7 to come back to this terminal, I ctrl alt del and rebooted and of course lost a couple of hours of note taking that I was doing as I was going through Gurru99's lessons.

I now know that I should have just gone to the F7 workspace, and all would be fine.

However, I do have a question if I may?

The crtl alt F2-7 works a treat, however F1 just gives me the blinking cursor. Gurru99 does not mention it any where, and I can not seem to find any info on this.

So my question to you experienced folk is, is the blinking cursor on the termianl F1 meant to be a like that in this Distibution of Lite, or is there something a miss?

I do understand I can just use F2-6 but it just bothers me that if something should be working, then why is it not?

For others who might read this and are new to Linux, and moved from the Windows, might I say that the lessons from Gurru99 are clear, concise and very helpfull, and you can find them here
https://www.guru99.com/unix-linux-tutorial.html

Love this install of Linux Lite 4.8 and am really enjoying the learning curve. When I teach folk, I always say that there is no such thing as a stupid question, just a stupid mistake because you did not ask the question in the first place, lol.

I feel the same applies here, and thank the responders.

Appreciate any pointers on the question, and thanks in anticipation.
regards
H

there was an error during the CUPS operation server error internal error
Posted by: kat - 05-01-2020, 12:46 AM - Forum: Printing and Scanning - Replies (7)

HI,
I just downloaded Linux Lite 5.0 RC1 over 4.8. Everything runs fine, except when I went to set up my wireless network printer, I get "there was an error during the CUPS operation server error internal error". When I go to add a printer, it sees my printer in the network section, I choose it, but at the end it says that error. At the first try, it said it would set the firewall for me for it to work, but I wonder if it did. Help. What should I do? In past, I've had no problem setting up my printer.

An issue was solved on 5.0 UEFI
Posted by: AposChatz382 - 04-30-2020, 03:07 PM - Forum: Suggestions and Feedback - Replies (3)

Hello people,

My father bought a Lenovo IdeaPad L340-15API few months ago and i installed Linux Lite 4.8 BIOS. At some point he wanted to use the HDMI output (which i did not try after installation) and he couldn't. He asked me to switch to Windows 10 because he needed the HDMI port for his work. Unable to find a solution i decided to try version 5.0 with UEFI hopping it would fix the HDMI issue. Although i got an error during installation(pic), it worked. The HDMI was working perfectly out of the box. The only problem that persists on this laptop is the Wi-Fi. On every installation i need to patch an older kernel for it to work. I don't know if this has anything to do with UEFI or anything else, i just hope it gets fixed on the future. I will stick to Windows 10(on this laptop only, all other computers run Linux Lite 4.8) for now until version 5.0 is released as stable.

Thanks to the whole linux community for helping with the Wi-Fi issues and thanks to the Linux Lite developers for fixing alot alot of issues on every update!

New to Linux Lite OS and loving it!
Posted by: jesse.bassett - 04-30-2020, 11:58 AM - Forum: Introductions - Replies (3)

Hello all,
I switched from Linux Mint to Linux Lite OS due to the fact Mint administrators did not respect their users on their own message board. I am loving Linux Lite OS RC1. I installed it and have not encountered a single error to date. I am very impressed by the updating process and the flexibility of the OS. All in all, I give the name of Linux Lite OS to anyone looking to switch linux distros.  Wink

Smooth as butter installation not 1 single issue! <3. and boy my laptop feels fast as hell right now. Smile. Got it looking exactly how I wanted with ease.

UEFI boot for Linux lite 5.0 RC1
Posted by: kat - 04-28-2020, 07:51 PM - Forum: UEFI Secure Boot - Replies (4)

Hi,
I've been on here before requesting a UEFI boot for the new upcoming LTS 5.0 linux lite. You say the trial Linux lite 5.0 RC1 has a UEFI boot. I just downloaded it on a usb to try it out on my Acer Chromebook 15 CB5-571 that I had changed its bios firmware to clean install linux to. I have downloaded Linux Lite UEFI 4.2 and updated to 4.8 on my Chromebook. It is working well. I can't get this new trial Linux Lite 5.0 RC1 to boot. It just goes to "grub" screen saying something about tabbing to find commands. I can put the usb in another computer and see the files of the download. Is there something I'm supposed to do to make the UEFI boot work? Kind of a dummy here. Karen Smile

N: Updating from such a repository can't be done securely, and is therefore disabled by default.
N: See apt-secure( manpage for repository creation and user configuration details.
I tried the following suggestion without success...
