Linux Lite Suddenly not Playing Internet Radio Stations
Posted by: Javelin Dan - 01-14-2019, 09:05 PM - Forum: Other - No Replies

Hello all. This is my first time here, and if I chose the wrong forum room I trust the moderator will redirect me to the right place.

I am currently running Linux Lite 3.8 32 Bit on two old netbooks I use for different purposes; an Asus Eee PC that sits on my workbench for research purposes, and a Samsung NC10 which I use as a media server to stream podcasts and internet radio all over my house using an FM transmitter (I've HAD it with Bluetooth!). Until just a few days ago, all was good and I was able to stream a particular iHeart radio station on either machine directly through iHeart or through a companion app called "Tuner". Then about Thursday of last week, suddenly I couldn't play either source on either machine. The pages load completely, all the "handshakes" take place and an icon for the station comes up with live ads that change, but I get a message that says "This station is no longer available". On the Asus, I also have Linux Mint 18 installed, so I decided to boot into that and the same station plays without issues as it does on two other iMacs we own that have LM 18 installed. The same stations play normally on my Android phone. All machines are fully updated.

I sort of assumed it might be because of a missing codec or security certificate, so I checked to see if I had "Ubuntu Restricted Extras" installed and I didn't. I Installed it - no difference. I'm kinda out of bullets at this point and was wondering if anyone had any ideas.

I really like Linux Lite, especially on these two old machines. Linux Mint runs kind of slow and clunky on these resource challenged boxes, Whereas Lite is quite snappy. Guess it's all kind of academic though since this is the last 32 Bit version. May have to eventually migrate to Puppy. Bummer!

  Laptop connected to external monitor
Posted by: Michael Fisher - 01-13-2019, 08:35 PM - Forum: Installing Linux Lite - No Replies

I have an old lenovo T61 Thinkpad with the monitor no longer working. I've connected an external monitor to it and use it instead. However, when I put the LinuxLite Live CD and run it, all I get is the background image with no menus. I think what is happening is the Live CD thinks the external monitor is a 2nd monitor instead of the main one. I can right-click and get a terminal and the link to the support forums but no way to get to an install button or link.

Does anyone know how I could reconfigure the monitor setup using the terminal in LinuxLite?

Thanks in advance,

desnotes

Linux Lite 4.2 Update repositories problem
Posted by: walter.lamia - 01-13-2019, 07:47 PM - Forum: Installing Software - Replies (3)

I installed LL 4.2 recently from ISO. I am having problems with Install Updates repositories. Here is the error log. What I think I need is a list of the correct repository sources.

download speed difference linux and windows
Posted by: TMG1961 - 01-12-2019, 10:02 AM - Forum: Network - Replies (8)

My laptop is dual boot, windows 10 and LL 4.2. Since yesterday i noticed that my download speed on LL is slow, i have a 200 mbit connection and on LL i get a max of 30-40 mbit/sec download, the upload is good, about 250 mbit/sec. When i boot into windows i dont have that problem, download there is 205 mbit and upload 250 mbit.

This has not always been like this, before i had normal download speed on LL. I can't figure out what is causing this problem.

Just booted LL from usb stick and tested download speed. It was fine, 205 Mbit/sec

Fixed by reinstalling LL4.2. Marked as solved

Thinking about installing LL on my main pc but need some advice.
Posted by: icedigger - 01-12-2019, 12:17 AM - Forum: Other - Replies (9)

I would like to install LL on my main home pc but would like to know if anybody else here has a similar setup.
I looked in your hardware database but did not see the hardware there.

How is the compatibility for this?

CPU - 2700x
Video - Vega 64
Motherboard - AMD x470 chipset
SSD - 2x M.2 SSD PCIe Drives

I mainly use this for video editing and light gaming.

Cannot Access Win2012r2 Server with ReFS
Posted by: icedigger - 01-12-2019, 12:12 AM - Forum: Other - No Replies

I have a 60TB server at home that I can only access via windows computers.

Any time I try and access it with a linux pc it says "Failed to Open File System".

I'm guessing because it is using the windows ReFS system.

Any ideas how to access this via linux?

  Password Invalid After Install
Posted by: kapdani - 01-09-2019, 08:49 PM - Forum: Installing Software - Replies (1)

I installed linuxlite on a Gateway Core 2 1.6Ghz machine this afteroon. During installation, I accepted the default user name "linuxlite" and noticed a message that the install was as "superuser." The install went smoothly and I am able to login as user linuxlite with the password I supplied. However, any attempt to install software (e.g., Chromium) asks for a password and the password that I used for install is not accepted. Any attempt to invoke sudo in a terminal window also fails to accept the password.

One possibly related note: The first thing I tried after install was to type a note in text editor. The keyboard translation was all screwed up (e.g., 'p' produced '*'). I Googled and found the Shift+fn+Scroll numlock solution which includes going to Control Panel / Keyboard and unchecking the "Restore numlock state on start up" box. Thinking that this might possibly have something to do with the sudo password problem, I tried sudo with a normal keyboard password and sudo with the numlock password and neither works. Yet, I can still reboot the machine and sign in successfully as user linuxlite and the same password I supplied during installation.

I would hate to have to do the install all over again but won't be able to use LinuxLite without being able to install needed software and being able to use sudo in a terminal.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!

Kapdani
