re-use old live USB for new LL iso?
Posted by: Searchernow - 10-23-2018, 04:09 PM - Forum: Installing Linux Lite - Replies (14)

I have used USBs for a few linux installs - I failed previously to re-format these, ie to empty them and revert to FAT format. Re-formats usually "succeeded" but only showed a tiny free space, ie didn't effect the live ISO. It's a while ago but I think I tried the formatting on both LL and Win7.

I want to try the 4.0 upgrade, I'm reluctant to use my last clean (32GB!! Sad ) usb. Any suggestions please?

  recording
Posted by: alchemist - 10-23-2018, 09:38 AM - Forum: Sound - Replies (1)

Hi, thank you for Linux Lite that is working very well on my old Acer Aspire 1640.
I have LL 2.8 installed on a Linux 3.19.0.80 generic i686 kernel.
I have Audacity working fine for recording, if you put "pulse:Mic:0" in its input settings.
Other recorders that I tried do not work, for example the gnome-sound-recorder.
There is also a secondary issue. In the Sound Settings, the panel "Recording" is empty, without any program listed.
My best greetings to all!
Paolo

  Upgrade across releases
Posted by: Amit Gholap - 10-22-2018, 03:01 PM - Forum: On Topic - Replies (4)

Hello All

It is known that Lite does not upgrade from 3.x to 4 and so on.
To have a better understanding on why so many distros cannot upgrade across major versions, could Lite devs or someone explain why such release upgrades are difficult or impossible?

Thx
-A

  Error starting/installing Linux Lite 3.8 and 4.0
Posted by: Feainnewedd - 10-21-2018, 10:55 AM - Forum: Installing Linux Lite - Replies (1)

I have a Dell Inspiron laptop with 4GB of RAM and an i3 processor. It used to run Linux Lite 3.8 just fine. Now I installed Linux 4.0 and it hasn't really been working since then. I was able to run it on 4.0 at first, but now it doesn't boot and just shows a black loading screen.

I tried inserting the flash drive installer to boot my laptop in safe mode, but each time I do so, the machine just freezes as shown in the photo below. The same thing happens when I insert my 3.8 flash drive installer and attempt to boot in safe mode.

Can anyone please help? I can't use my laptop Sad

  Hola from the Dominican Republic

Hi Forum. Just joined after installing the lates build of LL. After trying out over 10 flavors I opted for LL and couldn't be happier.
I'm by no means PC or Mac illirated but have been using mostly Windows for over 25 years and still do on my main PC.
So there you have it. Looking forward to learning via this venue and kudos to all who have contributed on the making of this OS.
Cheers.

Firefox 63.0 -unable to stop HTML5 videos from auto playing in this release
Posted by: Ottawagrant - 10-20-2018, 02:36 PM - Forum: On Topic - Replies (2)

I don't really like these popup & auto playing videos so many sites like to use. In Firefox it could be stopped by going to about:config & toggling media.autoplay.enabled to false. In Mozillas latest release of Firefox (v.63.0) it's not working. Even with it toggled to false the popup's still appear & auto play in v.63.0. Anyone have a suggestion to fix this, without resorting to a 3rd party app? Thanks for any & all help.

        30.203s NetworkManager-wait-online.service
        11.342s lvm2-monitor.service
        10.889s systemd-tmpfiles-setup-dev.service
          8.384s systemd-udevd.service
          4.632s ModemManager.service
          4.074s NetworkManager.service
          3.972s networking.service
          3.939s accounts-daemon.service
          3.459s udisks2.service
          3.227s lightdm.service
          2.778s resolvconf-pull-resolved.service
          2.665s nmbd.service
          2.511s polkit.service
          2.171s rsyslog.service
          2.165s networkd-dispatcher.service
          1.906s smbd.service
          1.535s colord.service

Does anyone know what I can do to speed up boot time based on this output ?
Thanks,
txm0523

Simpler investment monitoring and data visualiztion part 3
Posted by: trinidad - 10-19-2018, 08:29 PM - Forum: Desktop Customization - No Replies

I have continued on with investment monitoring tools for Linux Lite 4.0 and now have a sound shell script for dealing with stock prices, and will next finish one for crypto-currency. It requires no ruby or nodejs and npm package manager. Just good old shell code utilizing wget, gnuplot, figlet and fim. See the link below.

  Update kills Thunderbird's Lightning calendar
Posted by: Tyrannocaster - 10-19-2018, 06:13 PM - Forum: Other - Replies (5)

Crap! Just updated my Linux Lite OS and it updated Thunderbird, and now the Lightning calendar extension no longer works. That was the only thing I found that let me set up recurring events satisfactorily. Can anyone suggest something? I need to set up reminders on a monthly basis, but also on a bi-weekly basis.

  Another convenience - Download

Just added a 'Previous Versions' Download link on our Download page. Believe it or not, I get emails asking where people can get previous copies of LL. Now it's simple, fast and free Smile

Download button now added to Forum Menu too.
