  Alfa Network AWUS036NEH
Posted by: bitsnpcs - 10-18-2018, 10:16 PM - Forum: Tutorials - Replies (2)

Hello,

this arrived today and I just wanted to share about it.
This is Plug and Play straight out of the box with Linux Lite.
It is a regular sized dongle for 2.4Ghz b/g/n, WEP, WPA, WPA2, Cisco compatible. RT3070L Chipset.
It comes with an external RP-SMA dipole antenna of 5dBi, it is 1000mW/30dBm.
It claims to be "the strongest of its type on the market".
This is the strongest wifi adapter I have used with its default antenna.

This dongle supports monitor mode and packet injection.

Its antenna is removable/interchangeable.

In use this dongle finds 12 AP's in about 2 seconds, 1 extra in another 5 seconds, 1 extra 10 seconds later.
It finds of the 14, 13 AP's, 1 security cam.
This is good as in the same location and using the same set up, with my new AWUS036ACH which has 2 antennas I only found 4 Ap's and all 4 had much lower signal strength than with this dongle.
In addition to the LinSSID scans, I also browsed and searched online for a while with it, and it works well.

Hope it is useful info Smile

  "Preferences" showing in Appfinder
Posted by: phirephoto - 10-18-2018, 05:32 PM - Forum: Other - No Replies

So in the AppFinder, if I type "Terminal", two Xfce Terminal options show. Hovering over both of them, they both say Terminal Emulator. However one brings up the Properties for terminal. How do I prevent this? Sometimes the one on top is the terminal, sometimes the one on top is properties. I'd rather only see the Terminal Emulator one. Thanks

So not sure if this is the right category, but I have HP laptop, AMD GPU, AMD CPU, HP 17-ak001ds . I've connected my TV to the HDMI out on the laptop, but can't get LL to recognize it.

  Putty fonts different from terminal
Posted by: phirephoto - 10-17-2018, 11:23 PM - Forum: Other - Replies (5)

Maybe I'm not searching on the right keywords... Searched and can't find an answer. Is there a way to make the prompt identical when I'm SSH'd to my LinuxLite box from a Windows machine via Putty identical to the prompt I see when I'm at the console?

See attached for what I see when I'm local vs via Putty:
http://www.espphotography.com/putty.jpg is what I see via putty
http://www.espphotography.com/local.jpg is what I see locally.

  Libreoffice menus not integrated properly
Posted by: quadransmural - 10-17-2018, 05:02 PM - Forum: Other - No Replies

Hello,

I have 1366x768 display. Having installed Linux Lite 4 I have noticed that in Libreoffice the menus overlap and obscure other menu titles. This isn't unique to Linux Lite but some distros seem to have overcome this problem.

Is there a solution?

Thx for any ideas.

Who wants to write a basic About box for Linux Lite?
Posted by: valtam - 10-16-2018, 08:06 PM - Forum: Linux Lite Software Development - Replies (57)

I'm thinking in Series 5.x of having a replacement for llver.

When you type in llver, a simple dialogue box will appear with some basic information about Linux Lite. Think 'winver' in Windows.

A linux example:

The yad box is about perfect as an example of layout, information etc.

Our About box needs to have:

- Latest version of Linux Lite
- License (GPLv2) button
- Close button
- Credits button
- Linux Lite logo
- Linux to our website
- Copyright 2012 - 2018

You can write this in any language you like. I would suggest Python, but it's up to you. The finished product needs to be one, executable file. eg. llver.py

Happy hacking!
