Were are the stadard Linux files?
Posted by: genegold2 - 09-26-2018, 10:13 PM - Forum: On Topic - Replies (4)

I want to view the 'Fstab' file that was gererated at installition and it not there. Where did moved to? Seems everyone wants to short cut trying to make a smaller distro and not make a useful tool but for old ladies to do Facebook.

Disabling tapping on a non-synaptics touchpad.
Posted by: Yoru3 - 09-26-2018, 09:04 PM - Forum: Installing Linux Lite - Replies (1)

My system is up and running on Linux Lite 4.0 and all is well, including what appears to be a fully functional wireless Keyboard/touchpad. I have zoom and two finger scroll, in addition to the normal  touchpad cursor control. The only minor detail is that the tap to click needs to be disabled, because it is too easy to make accidental clicks.

The problem is that it appears not to be a Synaptics touchpad, and consequently the Mouse and Touchpad within the Control Panel, does not have a Touchpad tab under devices, and no Tap touchpad to click box.

The wireless keyboard/touchpad is the VicTsing model KG3608. The system recognises it as device  DaKai 2.4 RX

By looking at the X log, and installing libinput-tools, as far as I can tell, it is the libinput driver that is being used, as a generic support.

Having determined that it is the /usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d directory that contains the startup options configuration files (I think), I added Option “Tapping” “0” within the Section “InputClass”
of the 40-libinput.conf file, as follows.

Section ”InputClass”
Idendifier “libinput pointer catchall”
MatchIsPointer “on”
MatchDevicePath “/dev/input/event*”
Option “Tapping” “0”
Driver “libinput”
EndSection

I used pointer because that’s what the libinput list-devices said. But this had no effect.

Unfortunately, at an earlier stage, I managed to actually crash the xserver, by having a non-unigue identifier conflict. But was able to get back in via tty2 and recover

I’m now somewhat apprehensive of making more changes, when the non-synaptics touchpad, although working, does not appear to be fully supported.

Although the Synaptics may well be the de facto on Notebooks and Laptops, it seems there are an increasing number of wireless keyboards that do not use the Synaptics.

So the question is has anyone else had this problem, and know of a solution, or have a knowledgable suggestion that might allow the tap to click to be disabled.

Up and running with LL 4.0 on a 6TB drive
Posted by: Yoru3 - 09-26-2018, 09:00 PM - Forum: On Topic - No Replies

Finally got Linux Lite 4.0 running on one of my Mini ATX home brew system (ASUS E2KM1I Deluxe).
Installed using a 6TB hard drive.

The key to the successful install with the drive, is the BIOS settings,
EHCI set to enable, and in Secure Boot set to ‘OS Other’, which disables UEFI. The defaults assume that Windows will be installed.

The system runs great, and all devices automatically recognised, with UI refinements that are looking very professional. Very well done to all the implementers and testers.

The only minor detail I have is with my radio keyboard/touchpad, which I’ll put in a separate installation subject.

Getting rid of the 30s period before sleep
Posted by: Tyrannocaster - 09-26-2018, 06:15 PM - Forum: On Topic - Replies (11)

Hi, everybody - new user here. I can't figure out how to get rid of the 30 second countdown that I get when I want to suspend the system. I'm talking about the one I get down in the right end of the menu; the one that comes up when I go through the whisker menu doesn't do this, but it's more clicks. I know I can just click the mouse and bypass it, but I'd like to just click on SUSPEND and have it suspend without any backtalk.  ;D How do I do this?

Thanks!

Always wanted to say that - sort of like a draft board notice.

I'm a longtime Mac user (and Amigas before that, LOL) who also uses Windows - I'm mainly interested in music (ex-pro musician) and graphics but I decided to switch to Linux for my internet needs and daily non-music/graphics tasks because I just won't ever buy a newer Mac (crap stuff) and as for Windows...the less said, the better. So far I'm fine with Linux Lite (I've used several distros in the past, but just on live versions; this is my first time seriously using it and having to get everything working as well as possible), but there will undoubtedly be hiccups and I'll be sure to post here.

One pleasant surprise is that the Linux version of Reaper works really well, although at this point I'll be sticking to Windows for that because of all the VSTs I have. I did have an unpleasant surprise when I tried copying files to a usb drive though - the transfer rate was awful. I will post about that in one of the other forums, as it seems to be a rather general Linux complaint.

I did the Virtual Box removal stuff and with a SSD system disk my bootup time is totally acceptable. I think it would have been better for the devs to turn that off by default though, because you see complaints all over the place about the long bootup time but the complainers often don't actually look into it so they don't realize what the cause is. It gives the distro a bad name IMO.

More later; cheers, and hello.

EPSON EPL-5700i Laser Printer (Not Working)
Posted by: Xorcist - 09-25-2018, 11:52 PM - Forum: Printing and Scanning - Replies (2)

Try as I may, I can't get my EPSON EPL-5700i Laser Printer to work via CUPS, etc. The printer is a bit on the old side, but it was recently tested with the latest possible drivers available on Windows 2000 and works flawlessly. Now Linux Lite recognizes the printer and I have tried both the readily available PPDs for the 5700 and 5700L but the printer just won't print. I even tried traveling through time to get this:

https://web.archive.org/web/200801150244...page=howto

without any luck. Anyone have any insight that might lead me to a working solution. I've tried both USB and Parallel port connections.

I'm using Pinguy builder in Xubuntu 18.04 and it works very well to make personal iso images. They should see the possibility of incorporating it in LL 4.2  8)

  Linux Lite 4.2 Beta Released
Posted by: valtam - 09-25-2018, 01:18 AM - Forum: Release Announcements - Replies (16)

Release Announcement

Linux Lite 4.2 Beta is now available for testing.

This release has a number of minor changes. Think of it as 'refinement' and not a 'major upgrade'. There are some new wallpapers thanks to [member=5059]whateverthing[/member] and some minor tweaks here and there.

Lite Welcome

Minor changes.

Help Manual

The Help Manual will be updated for 4.2 in the Final.

Details:

Kernel: 4.15.0-34.37 (custom kernels also available via our Repository for versions 3.13 - 4.18)

LibreOffice: 6.0.6.2
VLC: 3.0.3
Gimp: 2.10.6

Known Issues:

Is the slow boot fixed on some computers? That has yet to be tested. I have done some 'under the hood' work on this, but of course, we need testing on real hardware on an array of different computer configs to know for sure.

There is no upgrade to or from Beta releases. Beta releases are for testing only and it is not recommended to run them as your main or secondary operating system.

Newer to Linux unable to successfully complete update
Posted by: rdward - 09-24-2018, 12:31 AM - Forum: Installing Software - Replies (5)

Big Grin Good evening, this is Dave (rdward) and I am new to the forum. I have had LinuxLite on my old, old laptop for close to a year, and it has been fantastic. Today I ran into an issue while trying to diligently run "install updates" and ended up with error logs. I will post it below, since that is what my error log said to do. Many thanks to those not wet behind the ears.
