Hello! I am a newbie and new to the forum. I am also illiterate as far as coding is concerned, having been a Windows user. I installed Linux lite a couple of days ago, and while mounting partitions, ran into a problem. Although I followed the instructions in the manual, an error message popped up about the disk, and then I couldn't get past the initial screen on boot up - the one with the feather. After that I got a black screen saying
'welcome to emergency mode!' and a bunch of options including entering a root password (which didn't work) and pressing 'control -D'. On doing the last action, I got an error about some 'ext4 not found'.
The forums were full of help that involved a lot of code which I didn't understand. (I'll learn code by and by, but right now I need help!)
So I tried re-installing. Now the opening screen has 2 versions of linux. How do I remove the earlier one?
I would really appreciate help on this! Thank you in advance!

A tell-tell for the unattended-upgrades process

I have a habit of performing updates via Synaptic. Sometimes I do this immediately upon starting a session. Often this activity is obstructed and a message appears advising me that only one software management tool is allowed to run at the same time. I have learned that this is invariably due to an active unattended-upgrade process. I am no longer mystified about it.
However, it would still be nice if some kind of tell-tell were to appear somewhere on the screen to advise us when this process is underway. Then, when the upgrade is finished and the tell-tell disappears, we could carry on with the operation that had to be postponed, be it apt-get, dpkg, gdebi, Synaptic, or Installing Updates.

I have started back into building again. I created the SuperGamer series and have been branching out to get some Debian/Ubuntu experience. I enjoy Linux Lite of the package selection that I would normally install. I would add Bleachbit and Firejail but that is my opinion. Now for my question, does any of the developers have an issue if I respin Linux Lite with just basically some theming changes as well as some added programs. The last week I have been building iso's of what I like to learn how the live stuff is being made as well as how to just create an install disk. I am asking in advance so I do not step on any toes and will honor any answer. Thank you. Darin

NO Sound When Using The Opera Browser?

I don't know what happened... but I have sound while using Firefox and
when I go to use Opera and try to play a YouTube video, there is No sound!
Any ideas? I checked the settings of the browser and see nothing referring
to sound. I am absolutely Dumb-founded over this. NEVER had this happen
before. Yah gotta just laugh...
Opera has had numerous issues ever since its inception and even now after
a China based company buys the browser and rebuilds it from the ground
up using the Chrome engine... it is still problematic!

Settings of date and numbers

I do not know how to switch the settings of date and numbers to local (Austrian) standard.
Thunderbird shows me the time of received E-mails with AM and PM, with j-pilot the week starts with Sunday and tells me that "Heute ist Tuesday, 16. May" which is a mix of languages. The terminal says 70.5 MB and 5,123 kB instead of 70,5 MB and 5.123 kB.
Google (in Firefox) keeps forgetting German as well.
The mere words are in German but numbers and dates are not.
Does anyone have an idea how to solve this? The German language pack is installed, all language settings are set to German.
Update:
I found the culprit: The regional settings were set to "English-US". It took me a while to set it to "German", because the settings kept jumping back to English.
I do not know why, but suddenly the settings for German remained and after logging in again everything works fine.
