Treating Moderate-to-Severe Technophobia With Linux Lite!

Hi!
I'm a little bit technophobic when it comes to computers. Kinda like, push the wrong button and BOOM! Permanent, irreversible, catastrophic disaster.
Even though I dare to tinker a little bit with Linux distros when I'm feeling brave, at least on my main home desktop computer that I use for most of my college coursework, I'm using and really loving my Linux Lite! I need simplicity more than anything, and stability is just about equally important for me. Linux Lite fits the bill! I wrote about treating technophobia with Linux Lite here in my "technophobe's blog."
I'm not on Facebook or Google where you're kinda like a "commodity" for sale to advertisers, but I've been playing around on Diaspora for a few months... It gets off to a very slow start but if you stick with it it kinda develops into a wonderful place to learn and grow.
One of the coolest things about Linux - and Linux Lite in particular - is how infinitely customizable it is, not just cosmetically, but system-wide. I've got Midori on in place of Firefox, Evolution in place of Thunderbird, and I added a supercool point-and-click USB stick formatter (called Mintstick) that I heard about from a Linux Mint user. It's standard in Mint and LXLE, and I dare say, it ought to be in LL too (easier and quicker than using GParted just to format a USB thumb drive, which I do a lot between school stuff and external backups.
Looking forward to learning and maybe even contributing a little here and there.

Have got to tell anyone who will listen lol, i went out this morning and bought a 24" Samson Curved Monitor and a Logitech C920 webcam and they both worked straight out of the box. No fooling about installing this or that, whatever. They just worked. Considering this desktop computer used to run Windows XP and now it's running Linux Lite 64bit. Simply amazing.

System will no longer wake from sleep

I've been running Linux Lite 3.4 for a few months now and it seemed like the dream OS for me. I'm running on a 10y/o Gateway 64bit desktop machine with an added newer HDMI video card and 4GB of system RAM (I can't get the specs of the computer or video card right now). This configuration has worked beautifully for the last few months (and many more on other Linux distros), but I recently did updates and suddenly my system will go to sleep (and I assume it's sleeping) and will not wake up. Using the keyboard or mouse, I just get a black screen with the other indicator lights on the front of the machine blinking away like it's still up and running. Usually I could use Plex, Team Viewer or RealVNC to connect to it after it had gone to sleep but now I can't connect after it sleeps. As a test this morning, I disabled sleep altogether so the system would just stay awake all day while I went to work. Unfortunately, I forgot to restart after changing the settings, however; when I got to work an hour later I was able to remote in via RealVNC and do plenty of stuff. I let it sit for roughly 10 minutes while I did other stuff for work and when I went back to it, the screen was unresponsive. I disconnected and tried reconnecting and it would not work. I have to assume it's simply locked up again since I can't connect to Plex or via Team Viewer either. On reboot I now get a few notices that the system experienced some error. I've been running Linux distros for a few years now, some great, others not so great. Linux Lite seems to be one of those great ones for me because it (used to) run so well on my older hardware. I'm not an advanced Linux user, but I'm not new to the whole thing either. I don't know of anything that has changed in my system since I don't tend to install much or make many system changes beyond my initial setup. The machine is mostly used as a Plex/Print server and general web browsing. The only thing I recall doing was running the updates recently.
Suggestions are welcome and I'll try to answer anything I can.
I think I'll try uninstalling Team Viewer. It was generating one of the errors on restarting the machine.

I downloaded Linux-lite 3.4-32bit.iso to my 2.8 program
I then downloaded the iso to the usb flash drive
I installed the usb flash drive to my laptop and it opened the 3.4 program
I was able to make changes to the program which included updating the files.
At the end of the update program it suggested I reboot to correctly install all files
I rebooted the system but all changed I had made were now lost
I am still able to boot the system from the 16gb usb drive
How do I get the changes to download to the usb drive so I will have a live usb

Using ciscos Packet Tracer 7.0

Due to a partitioning problem I have had to reinstall Linux Lite, which has not worked, because the installation DVD was defect. So I installed Linux Mint, now Linux Mint 18. (I have a bunch of those linux DVDs.)
I would like to reinstall Linux Lite also. But currently I'm interested in the question which version of qt is used with linux lite, because I got those error message under Linux Mint, if I try to start Packet Tracer 7.0.
Code: johnd@johns-desktop ~ $ packettracer
Starting Packet Tracer 7.0
Fatal: Cannot mix incompatible Qt library (version 0x40807) with this library (version 0x40802)
/usr/local/bin/packettracer: Zeile 9: 3430 Abgebrochen LD_PRELOAD=/opt/pt/lib/libQtWebKit.so.4 PTDIR=/opt/pt ./PacketTracer7
johnd@johns-desktop ~ $
I guess this means, that Packet Tracer is using and needs qt 0x40802, but Mint is using qt 0x40807, a newer version.
Regards
John

Hibernate No Longer Working

Back in the days of LL.2 both suspend and hibernate worked flawlessly on my desktop.
When I moved up to LL3 I lost the ability to Suspend but was still able to Hibernate . . . . . until the recent round of updates and now neither function works no matter what I do in power manager either option just switches the machine off almost instantly and I have to reboot from scratch next time I want to use the desktop.
Can anyone help in restoring hopefully both, but at least one of the Suspend and/or Hibernate functions to my desktop please

About an hour or so ago, I used the Lite Upgrade option to upgrade to 3.4 from 3.0. Towards the end of the process and after reboot, the System Information and Update Status box at the bottom left corner of the desktop was there and it did read Linux Lite 3.4, then at some point it was gone. I rebooted but it still has not reappeared.
How can I get it back please?
