A brief(?) introduction...
My name is Boyd. The scope of my computing activity ranges from programming, beginning in the late sixties, the Olivetti P602, followed by the TI 52 & 59, the Commodore PET & C64, a VAX 11/730, and ultimately the ubiquitous PC, to building and deploying fifty-odd workstations by the year 2006.

My programming efforts - now fashionably called development - were all conducted as a means to significantly improve my productivity and that of my co-workers. From the early eighties until my retirement in 2006 I was involved with Microsoft operating systems.

After that I embraced Linux as my OS of choice and have been gradually forgetting the former and slowly learning the latter. Like many others, I have hopped from one distro to another, always looking for the subjectively perfect out-of-the-box distro experience. At this milestone, I consider Linux Lite to be that distro. I commend Jerry and all the others who have contributed to making it what it has become today. Lite is especially meritorious for seniors who can no longer justify an indulgence with proprietary software.

By now you will have deduced that I am of an elderly persuasion. I hold to the notion that problem solving - by stimulating the grey matter - helps to postpone nasties like alzheimer's and/or dementia. And certainly, if one endeavors to impose OS behavior that doesn't exist out-of-the-box, one will encounter problems. But, whatever your predilection, there is a wealth of assistance to be found on the Internet posted by many enthusiastic linux users who have resolved problems of their own and/or helped others with theirs. The Linux Lite forums are a good example.

Playing with linux is my primary hobby. There is always some new app or command to investigate, and another bash experiment to undertake. Here's to the morrow...

I suggest having the Compton composite manager preinstalled, but allowing the user to select it in the Session and Startup > Application Autostart tab.  Or perhaps some other method for easy installation/activation could be implemented. 

Compton has helped me and others with screen tearing.  When I found out about it, I was more comfortable installing it on my own, but I'm sure I would have been hesitant as a new Linux user.

I really like Linux Lite. I have been searching for months for the perfect distribution, and I have literally tried them ALL on distro watch. I finally have settled down with Linux Lite. I love that its made for beginners like me, and there are some even advanced features. One thing I would recommend is the use of UEFI. I was kind of shocked to discover it was still legacy, but I guess that is for older systems.

How can be set (if it is possible), when selecting several files in folders, or several cells in Calc files with shift or ctrl and keyboard arrows or with mouse gesture, that after this selection, it is not connected to mouse wheel, that mouse wheel can scroll without zooming or performing any other action?
At present setting, when files or cells are selected using ctrl plus arrows, after doing this selection, mouse wheel can not be used for scrolling, but must be cancelled with escape. How can be set that scrolling mouse button is not connected with anything else?

It will accept Sata and Pata 2.5 and 3.5 drives.

Can also be used for drive cloning.

Accepts SD cards and external usb .

A very useful bit of kit.

My son would like a gaming PC tower for his birthday: I have the choice of a tower with either Intel or AMD CPUs
However, he wants to keep using LL, or Linux generally, dual-booted with Windows OS.

I know that AMD processors seem to give you more 'bang for your buck', and seem to max at speeds above those of Intel, though am no expert on  this.

Do AMD processors support LL or Linux as well as Intel ones, or is Intel better?
I also want a reasonably priced gaming tower, not a battle tank with flashing lights  that'll cost the earth, and one that's not going to push up our energy bills too much - some I've seen are rated at 500 Watts - I could heat my son's bedroom in winter with that power!

Would be grateful for some advice to help me decide.

Hello everyone! I just installed linuxliteos last night on my home desktop computer. The computer has a 75gb ssd drive and a traditional hard drive (storage).

The install went fine with a couple of exceptions - I am not forced to input my user password to mount my 2nd hard drive and I also has an external drive attached when installing linuxliteos.

I edited fstab and remarked out both of the other hard drives. Both now show on the desktop. The external one I can access with no problems now. But my internal secondary hard drive still demands my user password to mount/access it.

I checked permissions on my storage hard drive and all 3 say read and write.

And yet the storage drive is inaccessible to everything unless you mount it first using the password. A bit problematic when you want your music player to access your files and can't.

Am I stuck dismantling my setup and reinstalling again? It is expensive for me to do this as I use a hotspot for internet which costs a small fortune in data plan costs.

I need some EASY uncomplicated way to fix this. I do not know the command line. Just a point click edit type user here.
Typing complicated stuff is not my forte` . . .

Hello,
I am trying to use this installer on Linux Lite to make an sd card for Kodi on Pi3.
The installer keeps bugging out, they seem to think it is a problem unique with Linux Lite, and have just checked it in Mint and say it works/show the log of it working.
Their advise is to use the windows 10 installer and I am trying my best to use windows as little as possible to improve my learning rate on LL.

Update -
I have solved it my problem now, I got the image and used Etcher to burn it, which I remembered from on a thread Jerry had wrote , it had no problem burning it and was very fast.

As a beginner removing it was a total nightmare for me, as was learning how to fix the card it trashed twice.
Terminal wont format it, gparted won't, you have to delete the fat block it mutates to 235MB using gparted from the graphic it wont do it from the context menu, then use terminal to unmount it, mount it, and then it will format it, none of which I new how to do.

To remove the installer I had to find out the purge instructions, as there is none on its site, this even does not remove it, you have to then go all around your system as root and manually delete all it has scattered over your filesystem.
Re-search and repeat again until it's all gone. Fsearch is probably as tired as I am about now.

I have just joined the forum so I hope this is the right section to use.  Recently I installed LL on my laptop, which is a test computer. (I have a desk top as my main work computer.) Just a couple of comments.

As I was installing, the program correctly recognised that I live in the UK. Great. However, in use, I found that the date format was not as expected. So I checked and found that the locale had been  set up for the US. I had to change it to GB. Odd. Then, of course, in Orage the first day of the week became Monday. I like my weeks in any calendar to start on a Sunday, so I had to sort that out.

Also, I prefer the xfce-terminal rather than the default Lxde one. I looked through synaptic but it was not there. So I ran all the updates, which took quite a while. Then when I searched again the xfce-terminal was now in the synaptic list, so I was able to install it. Odd again.

These are just comments, not complaints. I have spent a lot of time since, installing extra programs and configuring the desktop. So far everything is great. Many thanks for all the hard work.  LL may well finish up as my main distro.
