  File Manager Search Utility
Posted by: seasoned_geek - 02-09-2017, 04:19 PM - Forum: On Topic - Replies (7)

It would be nice if the powers that be would dump whatever the current file manager is and adopt _any_ other file manager. Dolphin would be my preference since it has anything. Catfish seems to have less than a 60% chance of actually finding anything, especially if what you need is on a WD MyCloud or other network storage device. Dolphin seems to always find it. At any rate, having to open a different application just to search for a file is cumbersome.

Hi

Thanks to all who made it possible with Linux Lite 3.2  to keep my original MBR and install grub on the boot directory.

Regards

John

  Hello,

Hello,
My name is Dan. i was thirty years a furniture maker, so I did not grow up with computers. Eventually I taught myself AutoCAD so i could start designing furniture instead of spending my days on the workbench, though I truly loved working the bench. When the industry tanked and I had to look for a living elsewhere, with no college degree and little money, I decided to go into computers as there are computers in every industry and profession. Thus, I studied and earned MCP, MCSE, and MCOE certifications from Microsoft. Now I am working as  one of two IT personnel in a company that uses about 220 computers and servers, all one version of Windows or another from 2000 through Windows 10 and Server 2012.
I have played with Linux a little here and there; used Ubuntu a little and Linux Mint a couple of times; always on a very slow and old laptop with 512 RAM or less. Have tried to learn bash shell commands but have not been very successful....yet.  Have played with MAC some because our website guy uses one and I have to make it work with our Windows servers, etc.
Thlis laptop I ended up with when doing a data xfer for someone and they were going to toss it to the garbage because it had Vista. I took it and loaded LL 3.2 on it and here I am, hoping to learn, and to become Microsoft free, at least in my personal life. I am tired of being nickle/dimed by MSFT, and having them monitoring every keystroke and have Cortana tell me "she" can do everyting for me.
So i picked "Learning" for my moniker because that is what I hope to be doing here!
Oh, BTW-If you haven't noticed...I can be a little verbose...

there are no video drivers shown in additional drivers, only cpu intel or no device, it is on cpu Intel.
I have checked updates.
Currently resolution is 640x480, I would like it 1440x900.
How do I add in drivers for this ?

Network drives not connected at either boot or first access
Posted by: seasoned_geek - 02-07-2017, 03:39 PM - Forum: Network - No Replies

I have been trying to log this as a bug for days. Either the bug tracker is busted or it only lets a user have one open bug report at a time.

I have a Western Digital MyCloud on my network. I configure whatever base editor I'm using on whatever platform to automatically re-open everything which was open last time. KATE, UltraEdit, doesn't matter.

I have saved the account and password information in whatever this file browser is and told it to keep forever and created shortcuts so they always appear under Places.

When I boot, the drives do not auto-connect. When UltraEdit tries to ope this file smb://wdmycloud/roland/to-do.txt because it is always open, it fails and removes all files from "recent" history which are on that path.

Chosing File->Open shows a dialog which doesn't have an entry for the shortcut found in "Places" on the system file browser. One click on the shortcut entry in the file browser and we are "instantly" connected without having to provide any information. Now if I click File->Open in UltraEdit I see the shortcut for this path.

I'm flagging this as a bug because KaOS and quite a few other distros auto-reconnect network drives either at boot or at first access. While it might be easier to connect at boot it would be better to connect at first access and to always show every "Places" entry in the file chooser dialog provided by the OS/platform to applications.

  Black line on Monitor
Posted by: Jocklad - 02-06-2017, 11:10 AM - Forum: Other - No Replies

Never seen this before.... :Smile

When I booted up LL 3.2x64 this morning there was a black vertical line about three inches in on the left of the monitor.

Checked cables......all ok ....line still there.

This desktop is running two drives:

Linuxlite 3.2 on SSD.

Manjaro on HDD

Booted into Manjaro.......No line on Monitor  :Smile

Booted back into LL 3.2 line still there.

Went into systemback on 3.2 and rebooted............Black line gone.

Any ideas....?

Jocklad

.........................

Have since run updates on LL3.2 and rebooted.

The black line is gone.

Seems to be fixed, but what caused the problem............I have no idea.

Jocklad  ???
..............................

I will mark this as solved as systemback did fix whatever the problem was  Smile

  A bit about me
Posted by: STEditor - 02-05-2017, 11:33 AM - Forum: Introductions - Replies (5)

Hello LL Forums,
I'm STEditor, new to the forums. I recently discoverd these forums when I was searching for wallpapers, and I came across.... THIS!
I hope I can get to learn new things, and stick with LL 2.8. I can see that everyone is helpfull and informative here. I found out about the family of Linux operating systems around April 8th, 2014 - As many know this was the time when Windows XP was no longer supported, but even know many expensive buisness use XP, why can't they try Linux? Well nevermind, I'm staying with Linux untill the end of time! I do use a fairly slow laptop so It makes sense not for me to be lugging Windows 10 around, but LL!

Many Thanks,

STEditor  Wink
