Installing a PPA from the terminal - need help
Posted by: LinuxNoob - 02-23-2016, 11:55 PM - Forum: Installing Software - Replies (4)

I rarely add ppa's but every time I try it seems to not work. so

[Image: Screenshot%20-%2002232016%20-%20064630%2...crpsrz.png]

With this in front of you how would I apply that in the terminal. Maybe if I see how it's done it will help me in later attempts with other ppa's. Maybe it's not me maybe

Thanks

  Video Transcoding/Conversion
Posted by: Wirezfree - 02-23-2016, 05:36 PM - Forum: Off Topic - Replies (1)

Hi,

Just going through my latest "Linux Format" Magazine.
Very good review on main stream Video Transcoders/Converters.
The ones reviewed are: FF Multi Converter(4th), Handbrake(2nd) , IFME(5th) , VLC(3rd) and QWinFF(1st)

They said it was a very challenging picking an outright Winner...
But QWinFF was chosen for it's all round capabilities for both beginners,
and extensive configuration options for advanced users.

It is however only available via PPA via the downloads page link.

  Hi Everybody
Posted by: rajeev2631007 - 02-23-2016, 07:55 AM - Forum: Introductions - Replies (7)

Hello Everybody,

I'm New to Linux World. I start using Linux since more than one year. Initially I experiment with Peppermint 6 and I'm using it on one of my Laptop. I heard very good reviews of Linux Lite and Linux Lite community over the internet and YouTube .  So I downloaded and install Linux Lite 2.6 on my other Laptop. I want to Learn about this more about Linux Lite that why I register myself to LL community.

I request please let me know from where I start to learn and understand about this Linux lite. I'm hoping to Learn more about Linux under experience and senior users of this forum.

Thanks you to make  good fast and lite weighted Distro.

Regards,

Rajeev Gautam

  Linux Lite Firefox Themes
Posted by: WestX64 - 02-22-2016, 03:32 AM - Forum: Member Submitted Artwork - Replies (11)

Hello again everyone!  I have put together two basic Firefox themes that go with Linux Lite.  The first theme is a light theme based on the colors of the default "MediterraneanWhite" appearance settings when you first install Linux Lite.  The second theme is a dark theme based on the colors of the "Zukitwo-Dark-reloaded" appearance settings that ships with Linux Lite.  The two themes are for whomever is a fan of Linux Lite and wants a Firefox theme that ties together with the branding of the OS.

Light:  https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox...e-default/
Dark:  https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox...ault-dark/

In addition, to enable the toolbar buttons to stand out a bit more you can install the Classic Toolbar Buttons from the following link (as suggested by Bukowskii in the conversation below):

  New Donor Forum Badges
Posted by: WestX64 - 02-22-2016, 02:31 AM - Forum: Member Submitted Artwork - Replies (10)

Hello all!  In an attempt to encourage more donations towards Linux Lite, I have made a few new forum badges.  They are nothing super special, pretty much just the default forum badge with donor, gold, or platinum added to them.  The donor badge is for anyone who has donated any money to Linux Lite before and the gold badge can be for anyone in the gold donors list or anyone who has heavily contributed on the forums and has a "Gold Level Poster" status.  Also, the platinum badge is for anyone who has a "Platinum Level Poster" status here on the forums.  Let me know what you all think!

Update reminder time frame for control center.
Posted by: shaggytwodope - 02-21-2016, 07:45 PM - Forum: Suggestions and Feedback - Replies (12)

Control center currently provides info to the user showing what date updates were last run, while work is being done to improve accuracy of this info. I'm asking the community what would they like it to display.

A few points would be, is just date last run ok. Or would hours/minutes/seconds be important.

Is count of new updates important? example "Updates last run 2-2-2016, 4 new updates... [Click here to update]"

I understand the majority of users may not rely on control center for this info. However I aim to make it as accurate as users would want. Any ideas are welcome in regard to this feature. Or any features for the control center are also welcome.

Is Linux Lite 1.0.0 too old?
Posted by: Ottawagrant - 02-21-2016, 04:49 PM - Forum: Installing Linux Lite - Replies (9)

After 50cm. of snow I felt like a snow day project. The first LL I used was 1.0.8, and now using 2.8. But for fun I downloaded 1.0.0 to 1.0.6 to try on an Asus netbook & a Lenovo 3.0mhz computer. Perfect, fast installation in both cases using Linux lite 1.0.0. My question is, are there any working repositories for this OS? Just so everyone knows, it isn't devastating if there aren't. And yes, I understand this is a 3 1/2 year old OS. But I'm thinking of keeping it on the netbook. I never saw an Intel atom, 1gb memory netbook run that fast. I can & did (sudo install) the latest version of Firefox, UFW firewall, Firejail & Synaptic package manager. The only problem is on repositories. I keep geting '404 -ed'. Are there any working repositories for Linux Lite 1.0.0 to 1.0.4? I would like to say that even though we're up to version 2.8, with 3.0 coming this summer, version 1.0.0 is still a mighty fine OS. It's fun to go back to the original & you can see why the OS caught on.

Poll, New style of buttons for Control Center
Posted by: shaggytwodope - 02-21-2016, 11:33 AM - Forum: Suggestions and Feedback - Replies (16)

The existing button style is taken from GTK theme as with most "webpages". But with some styling the button's can appear a bit nicer (in my opinion of course).

You can see the current one here:

And new style here:

The purpose of this poll is to decide if the new style is preferred or old style. Or another look is needed.

New third style:

fun video with it... http://puu.sh/ngBBo/a98e1861ce.webm
