Using mplayer for radio and tv streams
Posted by: n1ksn - 02-19-2016, 12:19 AM - Forum: Off Topic - No Replies

Greetings, all.  I've been experimenting with mplayer for my notebook computer multimedia needs.  For a while now I've been using it for the back end of SMTube, and it uses far less CPU that using a browser.

I've also successfully used mplayer to directly stream two Wisconsin Public Radio channels, but relating to this I have:

Question #1:  Why do I need to use the -playlist option to successfully use these radio streams?  I'm not using a playlist, but if I leave the option out and only use mplayer <stream name> instead of mplayer -playlist <stream name> I get nothing.  The streams are of type http://*.m3u.  I could not find much in the man page on this.

After much searching on the internet I was able to copy old (5 years ago) command line code to receive an Al Jazeera tv stream using rtmp output piped to mplayer.  However, that's about the only working example I could find, which leads to:

Question #2.  Does anyone have references or links that would help me find more current live tv streams to view, especially of type rtmp?  I've seen some stuff on using wireshark to dig out info from a browser playing the stream, but I was hoping for an easier way.

Thanks in advance for any info you might have.

Cheers,
Andy N1KSN

  HP dv2000 remote control
Posted by: GMO - 02-18-2016, 08:44 PM - Forum: Other - Replies (8)

Hello all, I'm new to linuxliteos but not to linux generally ,I have this crappy Hp pavilion with this remote controller and I couldn't set it up to work under windows, apparently Hp  loves to charge for support and none of drivers didn't work for me.
I was wondering is there a way to use it on linuxlite (tried lirc but there is no config file for this model of remote).

  Sudo as reward
Posted by: liamjake05 - 02-18-2016, 04:46 PM - Forum: Other - Replies (7)

Anybody knows how to make sudo with tokens like the old arcade games. I have a little brother which wants sudo but I want it as a reward. Anybody knows how to make something like sudo tokens. Or at least a way to enable and disable sudo remotely.

  Pulse Audio Problem?
Posted by: aviceda - 02-17-2016, 06:50 AM - Forum: Sound - No Replies

Am not sure why but I've spent ages trying to hear sound through my speakers with LL, can even watch the indicator bars moving in "Sound Settings".
I've installed virtually every distro in the past on the same box and they all seem to play audio OK with Alsa, so I followed a previous posters advice and unchecked the 'Pulse Audio' box.
(see Thera posting Aug 5 2014  Stopping Pulseaudio:

"Or maybe: Menu->Settings->Settings-manager->System->Session and Startup->Tab Application and autostart->scroll to Pulseaudio.")
)

This also worked for me....but would anyone know why? Hopefully it might help admins.

Tom
