  Installing Updates
Posted by: robert - 06-05-2014, 10:54 AM - Forum: Installing Software - Replies (1)

I understand the need to update regularly using the Install Updates link in main menu.  Is this all that is required to keep system up to date or should I also update via Synaptics too?  Just wondered.

Posted by: SweetAction22 - 06-05-2014, 02:11 AM - Forum: Installing Software - Replies (1)

I downloaded the .deb files and installed most, however some dependencies were missing from the compressed file..
How would i get these missing files?
Or, how would i find the name to sudo Code: Blocks :: example: sudo apt-get install ??

Thanks

Simple Solution - Installing Firestarter in Linux Lite 2.0
Posted by: dayooper - 06-05-2014, 12:09 AM - Forum: Installing Software - Replies (3)

After installing Linux Lite 2.0, I noticed that "Firestarter" was missing from Synaptic Package Manager nor will you find it in the new Install Additional Software program. Firestarter is a nifty little firewall program that installs with a graphical wizard. The Linux newbie can set it and forget it, yet it offers advanced features that the experienced Linux user will appreciate.

Here's an easy way to get this program installed--

Point your browser to https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Firestarter

Go to 3rd paragraph down where you'll see, "Installation must now be done by obtaining and installing the .deb package manually, retrievable from the Raring repositories for either the 32-bit (i386) version here or the 64-bit (amd64) bit version here."

Click the word "here" based on whether you're running a 32-bit or 64-bit computer and then select a download mirror on the page that opens in your browser window. Make sure you select, "Open with gdebi-gtk" and you're good to go.

[SOLVED] Keyboard problem - Acer Netbook
Posted by: BobCP3 - 06-04-2014, 11:24 PM - Forum: Other - Replies (5)

Acer A0751h netbook.

The installation worked but the keyboard mapping is screwed up in a weird way.  My password contains a zero and I'm able to log in.  Once logged in however, the keyboard mapping is changed so that "0" is now "/" unless the FN key is pressed.  I tried a couple alternate keyboard mappings (The Acer Netbook is not listed) without success.

Also, apparently there's no video accelleration for the Intel chipset so that videos don't run smoothly.  They run fine on the old XP OS.

Too bad, since the OS seems pretty interesting.

  Problem changing the password
Posted by: dayooper - 06-04-2014, 11:08 PM - Forum: On Topic - No Replies

Followed the instructions in Help Manual to change password. Got to the point where you are supposed to enter your user name. Did so but received the message "command not recognized". Please advise.

BTW, I'm now running Linux Lite 2.0.

  New version comments
Posted by: rmcellig - 06-04-2014, 01:34 PM - Forum: Introductions - Replies (4)

I have been away from LinuxLite for a while eagerly awaiting this new version 2. I am trying it on two HP laptops and an old Dell 3000 desktop. First impressions:

1. Easy install
2. Feels solid and fast
3. It shows that a lot of time, care and considerations went into this release.
4. The Whisker menu looks great and it is editable!!
5. I have Crunchbang, Lubuntu 14.04 and Linux Lite on my Dell 3000. So far LinuxLite is really impressing me.
6. Love the additional software you can install

I think that's it for now.

I do have an issue with audio recording. Not sure if it is Pulseaudio or something else. I'll keep an eye and ear on it and post to a new thread if need be.

This new forum looks great as well!!

Fresh 2.0 install: No "Network Share Settings" and "Login Settings"
Posted by: keypey - 06-04-2014, 11:58 AM - Forum: Installing Software - Replies (7)

I am 1.0.6/1.0.8 user (virtualbox machine - my preferred main system, but i have to use microsoft as main). After installation 2.0, I want to configure (as 1.0.8), but I have no "submenus" for "Network Share Settings" and "Login Settings".

Any idea why?
