Was looking around the 2.0 beta I created on a USB drive this AM and noticed the relinux package sitting in /ETC - is this a functional capability?  Having a way to remaster an installed system to dump on a USB drive is very important to me as I take care of a lot of computers in the family.  Being able to setup the OS with the programs I use and then remaster it for installation on the other machines in the family is a huge timesaver.  Not many distros provide this capability out of the box so I hope LL is one of them...

No, I'm not an XP refugee.  All of my hardware is newish and 64 bit - I just prefer lightweight and efficient in an OS.  I've tried MANY distros and like a lot of folks I continue to look for the perfect one.  Yeah, I know it probably doesn't exist but the search is kind of fun.  I take care of near a dozen computers in my extended family and just recently converted my wife and son over to Linux.  Right now I have them on MX-14 which is a great distro with some very nifty features but it's based on Wheezy and only 32 bit so there are limitations.  I DL'd the 2.0 beta this morning and booted it on USB to give it a look and I like what I see so far.  I'm going to install it on my generic test laptop and give it a whirl.

As for me, I'm an old guy on my 3rd career and I worked as a programmer (in DOS) for over 15 years.  Haven't written a line of code since the late 90's though as I'm currently an Accountant.  All my computers are laptops ranging from an AMD E-350 netbook to a Core I-7 beast with 8GB RAM, 2GB Nvidia video, and 750 GB drive...

Linux Lite 2.0 Codename 'Beryl' Beta is now available for download and testing.

This build is the work of 4 months of constant development and the implementation of the best ideas from the team and the wider community. This also marks the beginning of our own repositories for our custom software so that changes and improvements to the operating system can be offered regularly. Now Lite User Manager, Lite Manual, Lite Software ( Install Additional Software and Remove Additional Software) and Lite Fix can evolve more easily to meet the needs of the user.

In this release we wanted to combine the newest versions of well established and supported software like LibreOffice, Wine and Gimp so that people have access to the latest features in those programs. In Linux Lite 2.0 you get the carefully crafted combination of current software in certain programs on top of a stable operating system. We think this is the happy medium people are looking for between long term support whilst also having 'the newest stuff'.

Both of these iso's come in at 699mb, that's cutting it close to mark when it comes to fitting a modern operating system onto a cd.
As a result we've had to search the entire filesystem for where we can make savings. One of those areas was the icon cache files. To regenerate these cache files which should give you a performance boost, enter the following command after a fresh install of Linux Lite 2.0 Beta:

My computer has crashed and completely locked up twice on Booting  with the following report

The only way I get the laptop to shut down is to disconnect the battery as holding the power button has no effect

I'm a newbie to Linux but I now have Linux Lite on my PC and Laptop and am very impressed with the speed and quality of this OP,
I have one problem at the moment with my printer, it's a HP Deskjet 2050. it worked great on XP and Vista but now it just churns out Blank sheets. tried the printer from my wifes Laptop thats running Vista and it prints out fine. Please if anyone can help with advice I would be very grateful.

Just a hello and liking what I have seen so far.
I had been using Fedora 20 and it's good but wanted to try some other distro's.
That sent me on a Big adventure, tried PCLinuxOS but could only get grub 18 errors but it caused me to learn to edit grub, so that was good.
Tried PCBSD and that was another boot up error ... unknown file system
Then I saw Linux Lite on Distro Watch.com and thought it looked interesting.

The nuances and details are truly incredible and I am so thankful to have and be using this distro. One quick question. My laptop has a max of 4gigs RAM and I was wondering if there is/was any advantage of using the PAE over the non-PAE kernel. I installed the PAE out of habit but wanted to check with you all on the pros-cons of the kernels for my system. Thank you.
