Hi Everyone:
I really need help. I'm 74 and have just installed Linux Lite 1.0.8. Everything works great, but I have no sound. I right clicked on the speaker on the right bottom of the screen and checked the setting there. Here is what I found. (Sound Card) PLAYBACK: Dummy Output(Pulse audio Mixer)...CAPTURE: Monitor of Dummy Output(Pulse Audio Mixer) MIXER TRACT: Only Master Track. Left Click command: amixer set Master toggle. I don't see any sound cards listed???? Help! Anymore ideas???
Thanks everyone....email is ok!!

MS Office/Libre Office---Solved |

Hey Everyone,
So my Linux Lite (which I love) came with LibreOffice. It works fine for me, but I am currently applying for jobs online, and I want to make sure that people can see my resumes and cover letters. How can I write in LibreOffice and be certain that it will open on their end when they use MS Office? Do I have to save it a certain way or something?
Thanks!

Just wanted to say hello to the forum. I'm not new to open source software, but definitely a greenhorn when it comes to any OS outside of Windows. I have an old XP machine I'm trying to revive with Linux Lite. After a few tries I finally managed to burn a live cd, but the desktop will only partially appear unless I boot into safe graphical mode. So I guess I have to start off with a newbie question...it runs great off the cd in sgm, but does that mean my graphics chip is not sufficient to run Linux Lite normally? I really want to get this installed on my machine, but I want to make sure it's going to be usable after installation. I was wondering if perhaps there's a driver configuration that can be done that will make it work? Any help would be appreciated. I'm really anxious after taking the tour, to get this thing goin. Thanks!

Segmentation Fault with Deluge and Qbittorrent |

I have been running Deluge for some time with no problems. Now I keep getting a segmentation fault and the program crashes. Qbittorrent had this problem from the first time I attempted to use it.
In doing a little research, I came across the suggestion that upgrading libtorrent from .15 to .16 might solve the problem.
First, is it likely to actually solve the problem and second, is it likely to cause any other problems if I upgrade it?
Thanks!

Linux Lite As A Possible Gaming Platform? |

Hello, All!
I saw this in my mailbox to day from Linux Forums, so I thought I'd share it with the community. Here's the link:
http://www.linuxforums.org/forum/gaming-...aming.html
Capagot's Question, in a nutshell:
- snip -
Is anyone aware about a Linux version tailored for gaming? I mean... I know that games developed for Linux can run on almost any standard Linux distribution. However, my question is about the existence of a stripped out Linux version, where all stuff that is nor relevant for gaming was removed. I know that such a Linux version would never be as thin as the OS that is found on a actual game console. However, I am quite sure that a lot of stuff could be removed from within Linux, reducing its latency, while still keeping it as general as possible to be run on, at least, pop processors such as AMD and Intel's.
I think that it would be a great project/initiative if it does not exist yet.
I made a quick search on the internet about that, but could not find anything.
Do you know if is there such a Linux version, or an ongoing project on this line?
Capagot
Here's Zenwalker's Answer:
LinuxLite is most likely about as close to what is described as is available just now.
Or one could install a Base version and install Wine and such oneself. The option is available if the willingness to do a little work is there.
-snip-
Just thought I'd pass this along. This is probably outside the scope of the goals for the development team at the present time, but it's something that, as Linux Lite grows and matures, perhaps should be considered as a possibility, as Puppy installs can be quite a challenge...

Streaming from ftp server over LAN |

First off let me say that, after hopping for the last 10 years, Lite has become my favorite distro for it's ease of use and simplistic beauty. I still run Puppy though on occasion for sentimental reasons..(lol).
I am having an issue trying to stream videos from my ftp server ( Mac OSX 10.5.8 ) on my Dell Inspiron Netbook running Linux Lite 1.0.6 32bit.
I have no problem streaming on my android devices but when I access the files in Lite, gnome player gives me this error message '' Couldn't open DVD device: /dev/dvd (No such file or directory)''.
VLC was suggested at one point on the Ubuntu forums but I had no success and it started looping and freezing my system. I could always download the files on the desktop with Filezilla and play them but that sort of defeats the purpose. A root file manager like Commander, A powerfull FTP client maybe...All suggestions are welcomed..THX.
