I've imported many Windows Firefox shortcuts and have managed to get them to open in Firefox after mashing several so called solutions. Happy to post the solution but would like to finish the job by changing file manager icons from default blank to Firefox icon.

I've spent the whole afternoon scanning the web and trying about 6 different solutions but none work. Has anyone solved this and can share the solution please?

I am on a small data cap and am wondering if there is some easy method for seeing/monitoring current network upload and download speeds in Linux Light 1.0.8. Also total down and upload since powering up would be nice.

When I inquired about the only remaining Linux Users Group near me, I got the following response, "...IMHO long gone is the day of needing to meet in person where we trade the latest Slackware floppies ...." and they are primarily just an unoften used e-mail group. Today I received an e-mail that the nearby Mac Users Group had folded. The last time I visited the nearby PC Users Group is was barely hanging on and from the looks of its website is not very active. It use to be huge with lots of Special Interest Groups. There even was an OS2 Users Group here.

In the nearby retirement community, there is a fairly active PC Users Group with a Mac SIG. This group is probably still active for seniors just getting into computers.

Looks to me that forums like this have replaced LUGs, PCUGs, and MUGs. I glad the help is here but face to face meetings would still be nice.  :'(

Hi Folks. I am a pensioner and live in new Zealand. My main OS is/was Xp. I have also dabbled in Ubuntu, Zorin, Mint and Puppy. I have a number of small hard drives and a computer tower (2.66ghz cpu and 1gb ram) with no side on it, so that i can easily change distro by physically swapping hard drives Smile.

I stumbled upon a YouTube video of Linux Light 1.0.8 by Spatry last night. He was very complimentary about it, including recommending it as a replacement for XP. So today I have downloaded it, had a wee play with it live, and was also impressed, so installed it and the updates.

What is a good backup program for a newby? Easy to set up and easy to restore the backup it needed. No Terminal programs please. I guess I would use a CD or DVD or USB stick.

Backintime-Gome was the highest reviewed in the Ubuntu Software Center but one of the reviews said "While I really like the backup process, I do not like the restore process. You have to install BIT manually when using a live CD/USB stick and you have to set the correct hostname. Otherwise BIT is not able to detect its own backup." Not sure what it means but sounds difficult.

I have tried different distros before and always when back to XP. But after watching "Spatry" YouTube video "Linux Lite 1.0.8 The BEST Replacement For Windows XP!" I think this is the distro for me, it has most of the program I would use right out of the box. And I am hoping it will breath new life into my (many, many) old PC I have around the house.

I know there are a lot of Micro$oft haters but IMHO they made a very intuitive interface (up until Windows 8 ). Why not take what Micro$oft does good and make it better?

I'm not sure if I've done something wrong, but I have noticed a couple of odd things recently...
Somewhere along the line, as I have been adding new items, I noticed yesterday that my Menu layout had changed from the original one - some extra things show and some have disappeared.

One extra one is "Help" and if I click it, my screen goes to the Screensaver.
The other one is "About Xfce" and if I click that, I am taken back to my Login screen.

I thought I'd been really careful to progress slowly, but obviously I've done something stupid and I have no idea where I have gone wrong. I sort of think it might have been something to do with changing to "English UK" language in Language Support and Regional Formats, but I'm not certain of that.

Anyway, if I wanted to revert to the original Program from the USB I made, how would I do this, please?
My laptop is currently dual boot between Windows XP Pro and Linux Lite, so I wondered if I could start over again and be more careful - but I don't want to have to reinstall Windows or encounter MBR problems.
If  there is a simple way of just overwriting my current Linux installation with the original from my USB, could someone help, please?

Just installed Linux Lite and now noticed I spelled my name wrong when defining the user!! Is there an easy way to correct this? I've been through all the Settings and User Manager options but couldn't see anywhere to do this.

Note: I'm referring to user's full name, not the log-on ID
