It might be worth posting your existing partition information, but it sounds like you may be missing the 'mount as' bit. From my notes, this sequence worked for me.

At the 'something else' option
Carefully select the Linux Lite 4.8 partition and right click
Select change
Select format as ext4
Select mount as "/"

Ahh Excellent. Yes I am installing right now. I knew I was forgetting something. Mainly right clicking.... Figured it was something simple.
