Help me, please! - CDROM and archive canonical
#21
After I carried out your first part of your instruction:

Please open a terminal by pressing 'Ctrl' 'Alt' and 'T' together

In the terminal window type or paste in this command
Code:

Code:
sudo dpkg --configure -a
followed by return/enter. When asked for your password, type it in followed by return/enter.

Result: The output below appeared in a purple box that completely obscured the terminal.

Package configuration

┌───────────────────┤ Configuring grub-efi-amd64-signed ├───────────────────┐

I wasn’t able to execute the second and third parts of your command because the terminal was completely obscured by a purple box displaying the text above. I had to close that terminal and open a new one in order to proceed with the remaining instructions.

Then

Code:
Code:
sudo apt-get update

Then

Code:
Code:
sudo apt-get upgrade
Results from the second and third parts of your instructions:

E: dpkg was interrupted, you must manually run 'sudo dpkg --configure -a' to correct the problem.

Retry the commands in the same order.

If you get the purple box again you need to accept what it is trying to do.
The 'OK' choice is probably already highlighted as it is the only choice, if so just press Enter.

I'm new to Linux—especially when it comes to coding and the command line. I've been a long-time Windows user, where things are generally more straightforward. Linux, on the other hand, is definitely a whole different kettle of fish! So please bear with me as I navigate the learning curve and forgive any inexperience on my part.

It seems you didn't receive the results to your:

I'll try to send it again.

When you run the
Code:
sudo apt-get upgrade
command, at the prompt
Code:
Do you want to continue? [Y/n]
Have you been pressing the 'Y' key to let it work or just closing the window ?

Yes, I was presented with a 'Y' and it worked its magic...

However, the same problem posting experienced throughout our correspondence with the Linux Lite forum website is faulty and preventing the result from being sent to you.  I tried sending it several times yesterday, but I was getting the error...  The admin informed me it is intermittent; however, I found it to be regular, and what the admin advised me to do to overcome the situation is not working all the time.

I'm fed up with Linux Lite and the forum's error.  So, I'm going to try another Linux distro, because we spent too much time trying to sort out the update problem and haven't got anywhere.  And I believe if we waste any more time on it, we still won't be anywhere near sorting the problem.

Thanks for your time and help.

Edited: Since this one has been delivered (after several tries), I will post the results here. However, if you receive it and there are more instructions to be carried out for a fix, I'm not interested anymore. As I said, I'll try another Linux distro.
