Add a VPN Connection is grayed out
Posted by: sameck - 06-13-2019, 12:57 AM - Forum: Network - Replies (2)

Just installed LL 4.4 to SSD on sdb1 partition.  Everything about the installation has been smooth.  Wired network connection picked up a DHCP address without issue...I am writing this from the newly installed OS.  When attempting to set up a VPN connection the VPN Connections > "Add a VPN connection" menu item is grayed out...unavailable.  I used "sudo openconnect vpn.sitename.com to get access but I would like to make this a saved connection.  Do I have any options?

Installed Linux, discovered vital software won't run on it, I need to add Window
Posted by: Missp Smart - 06-12-2019, 11:30 PM - Forum: Installing Software - Replies (4)

I was so happy to get rid of Windows, but found out a very important program I use will not work on LinuxLite OS.  I am trying to put Windows back, as a dual boot. I downloaded the files, they show up in my "downloaded files".  I opened  "terminal", tried sudo apt-get install IE11-Windows6.1-x86-en-us.exe.    I get the following error: Command line option 'W' is not understood in combination with the other options.  This is a time sensitive matter.  I need this resolved within 24 hours.  THANK YOU!!!  *** I also have the Windows 7 CD, but was unable to boot from it.

Problem with Openssh-server on LiLi 4.4 Live with persistence USB stick
Posted by: rondi - 06-11-2019, 07:54 PM - Forum: Installing Software - Replies (3)

I have installed Openssh-server on LiLi 4.4. It runs but i cannot get it to run ssh user@localhost--basically a loop back test. Sometimes it gets far enough to ask for a password and then fails when I have used a password that I entered befores. Other times it fails with other errors. I have tired a number of times to purge openssh (this also removes the config files) and then reinstalled it. but the same thing happens again. By now I have accumulated numerous usernames/passwords and every time I purge and reinstall--those same usernames appear in the log. I have no idea where the original un/pw are kept that the rsa creates from--but it recreates the rsa's with every install.

I have created a new usb stick with persistence but have not installed Openssh-server yet I want to ask here first.  So a few questions please:
1. Will openssh-server even work from the above--LiLi 4.4 Live with persistence on a USB stick?
2. Where is the original username/password kept that the 2046 bit rsa code is generated from? I need to remove that too when I purge.
3. Can I safely delete the /var/logs syslog and auth logs without any problems? These files get big.
4. Has anyone done this--hopefully someone has and can give me some pointers.

thia,
Ron

Can someone help me installing Foxit for Linux? I have downloaded the .tar.gz but just clicking on it does not install it. Any "help for dummies" available?
Foxit is heavy but unfortunately its annotations tools are much smoother than all the over PDF viewers available.

Tried installing LL 4.0 from USB
Posted by: JanetBiggar - 06-09-2019, 05:31 PM - Forum: Installing Linux Lite - Replies (6)

This is the first time I’ve tried installing LL 4.0. I have successfully installed LL 3.2 - 3.8 (at least 25-30 times) from both DVDs and USBs having downloaded the ISO files and creating the bootable media.

Initially I made a USB using etcher as it seems that since updating my Mac I can no longer create a bootable iso via SuperDrive (or at least I haven’t found anything explaining how to do so when I’ve googled). I plugged it into an Acer Aspire R3 131T (quad core, 4 GB RAM, 500 GB HD) and the menu came up with the choices of running LL, running in safe mode, etc. As I usually do first time I chose to run a live session to check things out and got a bunch of text I didn’t understand and then the screen turned black and I had a spinning wheel-like icon that just kept spinning and not changing.

I’m pretty sure from the info I found on the net about this laptop it is 64-bit, so I don’t believe that’s the issue (I couldn't seem to verify via BIOS if it’s 64-bit hence why I googled it).

I bailed and loaded LL 3.8 on the machine and because I’d like to check out LL 4.0 I then did what Trinidad suggested in this previously posted forum thread: https://www.linuxliteos.com/forums/insta...usb-drive/

I erased the USB using gparted then created the bootable ISO, all on the Acer running LL 3.8

I got the same initial menu screen, upon choosing to run the live session the same text stuff came up followed by the spinning wheel again.

I’m just wondering if this is an issue with LL 4.0 and that maybe making an ISO of 4.2 or 4.4 would work or is it something else? Is this something that might show up if indeed this machine is 32 bit vs 64 bit..?

I will try to upload the photo I took of the text. There’s lots of lines stating the following with stuff before these English words:
ACPI Error: No handler for region [RAM_]
ACPI Error: Method parse/execution failed
No caching mode page found
Assuming drive cache: write though
Failed to reset device (this line showed up 3x in a row)

Any thoughts?

What to do when your computer just die and won't boot anymore
Posted by: minesheep - 06-09-2019, 09:06 AM - Forum: Tutorials - Replies (1)

Tips colored blue are for mobile users only                                                    Tips colored green are for desktop users only
Tips colored black are for for all computer users                                            Tips with red "!"requires special knowledge

If it won't boot at all

1. Check the power cable. Your laptop's battery charging indicator light should turn on. If you are pc user try another power cable
2. Check the battery. Your laptop's battery charging indicator light should change color or power off when the battery is and if it never reaches full then it is dead or for some reason got short circuit.
3. Remove battery and power cable then try to boot without any power source to make any capacitors discharged then connect battery and power cable back and try to boot.
4. Take your RAM memory off the place it back you found better tutorial by googling your model and memory replace!
5. If your computer still won't boot to at least BIOS I don't know what to do

I will post other fixes also later

AccuWeather: can't access this website on Tor, using standard settings ...
Posted by: m654321 - 06-08-2019, 06:42 AM - Forum: On Topic - Replies (1)

The AccuWeather website has a weather archive (e.g. max/min temperatures for past years/months/days), as well as weather forecasts: you just specify the town of interest on their website to view the data.

It came to my notice that AccuWeather seems unsafe, as it appears to collect WiFi data & MAC address details, see https://www.zdnet.com/article/accuweathe...ed-access/
Contrary to this, Norton appear to have apparently indicated that this website is safe https://safeweb.norton.com/report/show?u...eather.com

I would like to access AccuWeather on my laptop, but without it gathering details of my WiFi router, etc.  In an attempt to avoid potential security issues with AccuWeather, I attempted accessing the website using the Tor browser (using the standard settings which come as default with Tor), but access was denied as indicated by the notification below, which in itself arouses suspicion. However, I am able to access AccuWeather on our network, using either Chromium or Firefox browsers by themselves.

Code:
Access Denied
You don't have permission to access "http://www.accuweather.com/en/gb/hastings/tn34-1/april-weather/327941" on this server. Reference #18.3d012417.1559974624.610e25a

Is there anyway to get round this access issue?
Many thanks in advance for any help with this.
